FREEDOM OF THE HUMAN PERSON FREEDOM the power to be what you want to be and the ability to decide and create yourself. an intrinsic and essential property of the person. Exercise of Free Will and Intellect we always seek freedom KINDS OF FREEDOM 1. PHYSICAL FREEDOM refers to the absence of any physical restraint. has the freedom of mobility 2. PSYCHOLOGICAL FREEDOM freedom of choice free to perform actions that he or she considers right and wise no outside force or influence can compel a person to take action against his or her will. 3. MORAL FREEDOM refers to using freedom in a manner that upholds human dignity and goodness. a person becomes more free when he or she uses freedom well. ELEMENTS THAT DEFINE FREEDOM 1. VOLANTARINESS Ability of a peron to act out of his or her own free will and self determination. 2. RESPONSIBILITY Refers to the person being accountable for his/her actions consequences 3. SELF-REFLECTION requires us to reflect on our actions, consider their effects, and make the proper choices regardong the most beneficial decisions or actions. KEY INDIVIDUALS ARISTOTLE POWER OF VOLITION Reason can legislate, but only through will can its legaslation be translated into actions. Character or habit is no excuse for immoral concuct. ST. THOMAS AQUINAS LOVE IS FREEDOM Human beings have the power to change themselves and the things around them. Love rather than Law, transform humanity. Love should govern humanity’s life.
