I am the Lord your God: you shall not have strange gods before me. 2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in Vain. 3. Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day. 4. Among the 10 commandments, what do you think is the greatest of them all?    The First Commandment calls for us to practice Faith (trusting in God’s providence), hope (desiring eternal life with God), and charity (loving God above all else).  Forms of Incredulity in Faith     Two sinsagainst hope    SinsAgainst God’s Love Have you ever doubted God’s love for you? How do we nurture a relationship with God and strengthen faith, hope and love? 1. -divinizing what is not God. Man commits idolatry whenever he honors and reveres a creature in place of God, whether this be gods or demons, power, pleasure, race, ancestors, the state, money” (2113). Idolatry in the Modern World Idolatry is not limited to worshiping statues or other deities. It includes anything or anyone that we put above God in importance. Examples: Excessive attachment to money, career, social media, relationships, or even oneself. absence or rejection of religious beliefs or practices 3 SLIDESMANIA.C Do Catholics disobey the first commandment when they venerate religious images? THE VENERATION OF SACRED IMAGES (C 2129-2132) When the Word became flesh, God took on a visible form. Since then, the Church has seen that it is most fitting for Christians to venerate (not worship) icons and religious images of Jesus, Mary and the saints. These sacred images remind us of and point us to the persons they represent. SYNTHESIS The First Commandment calls us to acknowledge, worship, and serve God above all else, rejecting anything that takes His place. It requires the practice of the virtues of faith, hope, and charity, and forbids idolatry, superstition, and any form of irreverence. Core Teachings: 1.Placing God First: The First Commandment directs us to love God as our highest good and priority. We are called to trust, hope in, and love Him above all things. 2.Rejecting False Idols: Idolatry today can go beyond worshiping images and include placing excessive value on material wealth, success, power, or relationships. 3.Sins Against the Commandment: These include idolatry, superstition, sacrilege, atheism, and agnosticism, all of which distort or undermine the reverence due to God. Self-Examination Questions: What are some things in my life that I might value more than my relationship with God? When faced with difficult decisions, do I consider God’s will, or do I focus on what benefits me the most? It has been well said that the Ten Commandments are commandments, not ten suggestions. Why do somany people treat the Ten Commandments as outdated or at most suggestions for moral living? PERFORMANCE TASK CAPTURE THE SCENE: CAPTURE THE SIN The class will be divided into 5 groups. By drawing lots, each group will have 1 among the 10 Commandments. Prepare a tableau with 2 scenarios: one showing the commitment and the other is sin against the commandment. Dear Lord God Almighty, I fall before You in shame. I am so sorry for sinning against You. Please, please accept my plea for forgiveness. I believe You, and I believe Your word, the Bible. Thank You for sending the Son of God to become the Son of Man. He lived perfectly, because we're unable; and He died as a sacrifice, because we're unworthy. Your love is truly amazing, Lord. Please help me to please you with the rest of my life. O, Father, please accept my sinner's prayer. I love You and Your Word. In Christ’s Name, Amen. SLIDESMANIA.C
