CASSANDRA KOKCEK CARGO DESIGNS Design & Technology PART A - DESIGN PORTFOLIO PART B - CONCEPT BOARD GRAPHIC DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE CARGO SHIPPING CONTAINER PLANS, DRAWINGS, MODELS AUGUST 27, 2021 1 Assessment Overview CONTEXT FOR TASK SHELTER IS ONE OF OUR BASIC NEEDS. IN THE 1950S AUSTRALIAN FAMILIES EMBRACED A SUBURBAN DREAM. HOWEVER THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE, SINCE WHERE WE WANT TO LIVE AND HOW WE CHOOSE TO LIVE IS CHANGING. STUDENTS INVESTIGATE THE NEEDS OF INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES, AND LOOK AT HOUSING OPTIONS FOR A VARIETY OF NEEDS INCLUDING EMERGENCY HOUSING. THEY PREDICT WHAT OUR FUTURE CITIES MAY LOOK LIKE AND CONSIDER THE SUSTAINABILITY OF CITY DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT. STUDENT PROJECTS WILL FOCUS ON UTILISING CARGO SHIP CONTAINERS WHEN DESIGNING, PRODUCING AND EVALUATING A STUDENT-SELECTED HOUSING SOLUTION RESULTING IN PLANS, DRAWINGS AND MODELS OF THE SOLUTION. IN ORDER TO UNDERTAKE THIS TASK YOU WILL NEED TO: WORK INDEPENDENTLY TO DESIGN AND PRODUCE AN INNOVATIVE HOUSING SOLUTION BY REPURPOSING OLD SHIPPING CONTAINERS. YOU ARE TO ESTABLISH AN IDENTIFIED SCENARIO BASED ON TEACHER/STUDENT DISCUSSION. STUDENTS WILL COMPLETE:- PART A DESIGN FOLIO: DOCUMENTING ALL STAGES OF THE DESIGN PROCESS (SEE TASK DETAILS SHEET ATTACHED). PRINT AND SUBMIT A ‘PROFESSIONALLY’ PRESENTED DESIGN FOLIO. PART B MODEL, CONCEPT BOARD AND EVALUATION: A ‘CLOSE TO SCALE’ MODEL OF THE NEW LIVING SPACE/FLOOR PLAN AND CARGO CONTAINER REDESIGN. INDICATING THE NEED FOR PRECEDENCE MODIFICATION REGARDING IMPROVEMENT, DESIGN ASSOCIATIONS MUST ADAPT TOWARDS IN TERMS OF CUSTOMISABLE CONCEPTS AND MORE MODEST APPROACHES OF BENEFICIAL PROFIT FOR INTERESTED INVESTORS. THROUGH THE GIVEN ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW A CLEAR APPREHENSION OF THIS COMPLICATION HAS PRESENTED AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE UTILISATION OF CARGO SHIPPING CONTAINERS AS A FUNDAMENTAL BASIS OF A NEWFOUND NOTION OF POSITIVE MODIFICATION IN THE INDUSTRY FOR STRUGGLING FAMILIES IN SEEK OF HAVING THEIR "SUBURBAN DREAM" COME TO LIFE. AS A RESULT OF THE SUBSTANTIAL RAPID URBANISATION IN EMERGING CITIES AROUND GLOBAL ECONOMY (SEE GRAPH BELOW), THE EXPENSE OF SUBURBAN ACCOMMODATION HAS INCREASED TO UNAFFORDABLE RATES FOR THE AVERAGE AUSTRALIAN FAMILY.THROUGH EXTENSIVE RESEARCH INTO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE AUSTRALIAN POPULATION AS WELL AS WHAT THE ADVANCEMENT OF AFFORDABLE HOMES MAY RETAIN IN TERMS OF MODERNISED DEMOGRAPHICS OF INTEGRATING SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY ARCHITECTURAL STYLES SUCH AS THE USE OF CARGO SHIPPING CONTAINERS AS A REPLACEMENT OF STANDARD HOUSING, PRODUCED RESIDENTIAL ALTERNATIVES CAN PREVAIL, WHICH ALSO ENCOMPASSES THE INCORPORATION OF OWN-DESIGN PROPOSALS, SKETCHES, AND DIGITAL PROTOTYPES. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS IS TO ACCOMMODATE AFFORDABLE HOUSING, BEING THE OVERALL AIM OF THIS TOPIC WHILST INCORPORATING ALL DESIGN FACTORS APPROPRIATE FOR THE TARGETED AUDIENCE. I WILL CONSTRUCT A LARGER HOME THROUGH THE UTILISATION OF 4-5 SIZED CARGO SHIPPING CONTAINERS TO MIMIC AND ALMOST REPLICATE A MORE MODEST HOUSE HOLD PROMINENT THROUGHOUT SUBURBAN NEIGHBOURHOODS WITHIN CURRENT SOCIETY. THROUGH THE FORMATION OF THIS DESIGN, FAMILIES WHO AREN'T ABLE TO AFFORD DESIRED HOMES ARE ABLE TO REINSTATE THEIR PREFERRED VISIONS THROUGH A CHEAPER ALTERNATIVE AND EXPAND THEIR BUDGET DUE TO LOW COST EXPENSES OF ITS CONSTRUCTION, BENEFITING OVERALL SAVINGS FOR OTHER APPLICATIONS. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO REPLICATE A MODERN HOUSE, THIS INDICATES THE NEED TO ACHIEVE AND CONSIDER ERGONOMICS, SPACE, SIZING ETC AS WELL AS DESIGN LIMITATIONS THAT CAN AFFECT ITS OUTCOME 3 DESIGN BRIEF SOME OF THESE LIMITATIONS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING : Obtaining building permits can be difficult. Shipping containers are not always eco- friendly. Modern appliances can be difficult. They often need reinforcements. Global shipping container shortage due to covid SCAN QR CODE TO ACCESS GRAPH AND VIEW ITS PROGRESSION AT YOUR OWN PACE :) 3 Brain STORM SHIPPING CONTAINER DESIGN 4 DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS f i n a l d e s i g n WHAT PROCESSES COULD I USE A variation of online applications allow me to implement certain tasks dependant on preference and requirements for its completion, this includes countless processes such as Illustrator, Sketchup (CAD), laser engraving and cutting, 3D printing, floor planner, smart-draw etc. Illustrator and Sketchup are modelling applications that can be used to generate virtual illustrations of potential projects/designs before they are developed since they are simpler to employ, adjust, and update than existing representations. Whereas laser cutting (a thermal process in which a focused laser beam is used to melt material in a localised area) allows for certain pieces to be cut and etch materials into custom designs. Integrating the above applications into my design additionally enables me to employ 3D printing and laser cutting practises. While constructing products in CAD, they may indeed be transmitted to a 3D printer to manufacture countless implementations such as furniture, ornaments etc of that can be anything dependant on the Cad model. WHAT MATERIALS COULD I USE Through the employment of various websites by way of illustration regarding smart draw and floor planner, the providence of both through their beneficial correlation allow for viewers to apprehend and gain a personal feel of the design through the initial stages to the conclusion of its depiction. Through this developed design idea can be integrated into a coherent proposals, to communicate ideas and concepts whilst assisting building contractors to construct it based on design intent. The floor plan serves as the reference for each set of workers on the job. Since it provides details of the layout as well as the scale and dimensions of each room, it becomes easier for the team to measure accurately to ensure that everything is placed where it is supposed to be, hence this materials inclusion within my design. In terms of the designs final stages, recent advances in architectural visualisation technologies have paved the way for virtually model homes to be viewed a significant factor prominent in effective materials. These allow prospects to inspect the home with a high degree of realism and immersion, reaching far beyond static renderings. Indicating my ability to freely walk inside virtual floor plans and customise them with available options, at my own pace and further be modified if preferences change. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT I COULD USE Through the use of the mentioned online applications above, ensuring access was verified in terms of anytime modification or if a needed demonstration of the process etc were to come into play, the beneficial advancement of both websites can be alternated when required regardless of location, time etc, the apps dependancy upon wifi further enhances the accessibility as school, home and payed data are all points of correlation for both smart draw and floor planner. 5 DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS EXISTING DESIGN 1 6 DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS EXISTING DESIGN 2 7 DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS EXISTING DESIGN 3 8 FACTORS AFFECTING DESIGN DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS Before initiating an architectural design, there are a variety of aspects that should be evaluated. These components influence the overall appearance of the property and are necessary to apprehend, considering users will be appealing to the end-user's preferences and requirements. Aesthetics, functionality, trends, form, time, safety, and end-user applications are among the design concerns. There is a variance of functional aspects the design must employ to ensure the design brief and all factors are met. Function refers to the practicality of spaces created whilst form refers to the shapes aesthetic design of a building. In terms of functionality a design inadequate of basic functional design elements may suffer from impractical proportions or accessibility, higher running costs and/or a lack of essential aspects such as storage space and adequate lighting or ventilation. All of these issues can have a dramatic impact on the liveability and value of the home. Hence, determining the perfect balance of form and function is the most desirable objective when designing however if done correctly it can capture the essence of the form i desire, while also maximising the functionality of my design. This will help when considering the overall landscape of which the design will be constructed upon, this means its formation is corrected on the basis of the nature and shape of the land in mind, an advancement both in a financial and aesthetic stand-point, this also will benefit small advancements such as the flow of the room etc that have a larger impact. An aesthetic feature my space requires is the sustained implementation of the scandinavian theme, this signifies the use of natural beiges, whites, greys, blacks and pastel greens through furnishings, fixtures as well as accent walls to further accentuate the theme. Within the design brief given it was specified that affordability, replication of a modernised home were to be incorporated hence the employment of the Scandinavian theme, a schematic popular choice by many buyers today. The aesthetics of a building is one of the principal aspects considered in architecture. For that reason, it is essential to comprehend the overall deterioration mechanisms within the different levels of a building including elements, components, façades and the entirety of the design. Safety requirements when constructing my project may be the inclusion of incorporating work safe practices when creating physical components, although i will not be utilising physical components such as the 3D printer often it is important when discovering new websites that i do not jeopardise personal information etc, this can be prevented through the use of further suggestion and approval by teachers and thorough research. Through this the proactive and preventative approach focuses on embedding safety into the significance of architectural designing. It emphasises possible solutions in terms of prevention and aims to foster more positive, civil and rewarding online experience for my design process. The end need my design is addressing are affordability, practically and high end aesthetic expression, what is needed from this remains, all of the stated listed factors must be employed through the cargo shipping container as that is the end users demand of interest. My project will take 10 to 15 weeks dependant on time management as countless unexpected factors can degrade the overall design this further includes the overall longevity of architectural processes as well as portfolio details. High end representations and conclusive illustrations of all cargo shipping containers takes time due to the countless functional, aesthetic etc elements that need to be heavily considered to ensure the end requirements are met while still reinforcing the given design brief. I have been inspired by popular trends seen on social platforms such as pinterest, youtube etc as adapting to new target audience expands the overall number of interested buyers in the designs, hence my implementation of the scandinavian theme as the main theme of my home. 9 FINAL DESIGN CRITERIA DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS - modernistic replication of a large sized contemporary house today however construction process must be achieved with the given time limitations - Target market must accommodate ranges from couples, to beginner families elderly couples especially those struggling financially correlating back to the design brief - In terms of structure, ergonomic practicality, sufficient flow of all rooms as well as its aesthetic side of things all of which must be considered throughout the design process of the end delineation, this includes adequate employment of windows, ambient lighting and adequate consideration of all furniture placements 10 IDEA DEVELOPMENT CONCEPT I SKETCH 11 IDEA DEVELOPMENT CONCEPT 11 SKETCH 12 IDEA DEVELOPMENT CONCEPT 111 SKETCH 13 ALL 3 CONCEPTS IDEA DEVELOPMENT FINAL DESIGN SKETCH 14 LIVING IDEA DEVELOPMENT PERSPECTIVE PERSPECTIVE SKETCH SKETCH 11 15 KITCHEN IDEA DEVELOPMENT PERSPECTIVE PERSPECTIVE SKETCH SKETCH 11 16 MASTER IDEA DEVELOPMENT PERSPECTIVE PERSPECTIVE SKETCH SKETCH 11 17 Final Cad Design FINAL DIGITAL REPRESENTATION 3RL PERSPECTIVES 18 Final Cad Design FINAL DIGITAL REPRESENTATION 3RL EXTERIOR PERSPECTIVES (FRONT) - All of the exterior elements of a home should be harmonious in design to the style of the inside. More importantly, it should also maximise functionality and usability to ensure that the use of exterior space are employed suitably. Hence, the double door entry, adding a sense of luxury further benefiting first impressions as well as the french windows, high end applications embrace this concept. - The change in colour in comparison the remainder of the home to further accentuate the theme through the use of grey creating a sleek contemporary look, this further contrasts the black framing of the windows. - Grey is the known to be a versatile neutral, through its evenly balanced correlation between light and dark, it suitability for other neutral shades such as beige, cream or taupe go exceedingly well, which are prominent colours throughout the home, which can be seen in the collage below. - Home consists of an adequent amount of ample lighitng 19 Final Cad Design FINAL DIGITAL REPRESENTATION 3RL EXTERIOR PERSPECTIVES (SIDE) - Sufficient amount of windows are implemented well here, facilitating the entry of natural light in the following rooms whilst maintaining the overall cross-ventilated execution from the windows, significant to the sustainability of indoor atmosphere remaining "light and fresh". -Traditionally, French windows are double hinged that can open either outwards or inwards based on room design. Open doors provide full access to the width of their opening, unlike some common wooden or screen doors that confine extra space hence the beneficial advancement of these windows - The french windows also add a general appeal to the property/design, as they are high class home instalments that allow an ample amount of natural light to enter a home - White colour scheme again further reinforces the overall scandinavian theme, simplistic colours compliment accent walls. 20 Final Cad Design FINAL DIGITAL REPRESENTATION 3RL EXTERIOR PERSPECTIVES (BACK) 43 - The use of employing sliding doors within the main frame of the design promotes an overall enhanced spacious feel, both the kitchen and dining area further benefit from this - The ambient lighting from the sliding door allows for a substantial amount of natural lighting to compliment the intended feel of the home as well as the furniture - The added feature of incorporating a door within the guest bedroom allows for outdoor activities to be accessed at any time - The white exterior compliments the framing of the doors and windows, simplistic colours a best suitable as it can be easily modified. 21 TIME & MANAGEMENT PLAN GHANT CHART (13 WEEK DURATION) 22 CONCEPT BOARD PART B 23 kitchen/dining guest living bed/bathroom Master bedroom 24
