What will you say so that others buy you? How will you keep yourself as a good product for others? SOCIAL COMPLIANCE TECHNIQUES Foot-in-the-Door Technique Door-in-the-Face Technique Low-Balling Deadline technique That’s not all technique Playing hard to get WHAT IS THE LAW THAT UPHOLDS THE TRUTH? YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST YOUR NEIGHBOR. (Exodus 20:16; Deuteronomy 5:20) Keep our relationship with God. (John 14:6) We who speak truth from the heart abides with God. Speaking the truth also shows our love toward our fellowmen. (Psalm 15: 1-2) Lies and deceit cause separation and distrust, while truth, though sometimes hard produces unity and trust. (Ephesians 4:15) CONTINUATION: PUNISHMENT NEW TESTAMENT Jesus Christ – not just the Lord of commandments but the man of commandments. Never “playing roles” or “putting on a false face” to impress others or win their allegiance. Matthew 5:33-37 “You have heard the commandment ‘Do not take a false oath.’ What I tell you is do not swear at all… Say ‘Yes’ when you mean ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ when you mean ‘No.’ Anything beyond that is from the evil one.” W H AT D O E S T H E EIGHTH COMMANDMENT COMMAND US TO DO? TRUTH 1. TRUTH IS A COMMAND. It is neither an option nor an appeal. This obligation arises from our nature as children of God. 2. TRUTH MEANS TO TELL WHAT IS TRUE. It must conform with reality. There are times, however, that we opt not to tell the truth that hurt someone. While the intention is good, it sends a wrong message that (a) something is OK when it is not and (b) negative comments are to be avoided rather than accepted. If our concern is to avoid hurting someone’s feelings, there are right ways and words to say. Experts can advise us on this. WHY SHOULD ONE NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST ONE’S NEIGHBOR? It is contrary to our identity and vocation. We should live a good and honorable life. WHY SHOULD WE PROTECT OUR GOOD NAME? It is something we share from God, who is all good and loving, and can affect our relationship with other people. No matter what we look like, our work or status, we deserve to be treated well. Our reputation are the ones that keep us well-thought of and well-spoken of among our fellowmen. HOW CAN WE KEEP OUR GOOD NAME? Living an upright life and defending oneself from false accusations. “Walang bahong ‘di nangangamoy.”
