**Factory Acts ** The Victorian era saw multiple factory acts intended to regulate working conditions in factories: 1. Factory Act of 1833 Ultimately, Parliament passed the Factory Act of 1833, which prohibited workers under the age of 9 and restricted the working day in textile mills to 12 hours for persons age 13 through 17 and to 8 hours for those age 9 through 12. This Act laid down new rules regarding the employment of children and young persons and required attendance at school for younger children working in factories, among its resolutions. The act also [mandated](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/mandated) that child workers under the age of 13 receive 2 hours of school per day. Crucially, the act established a four-member inspectorate to enforce the law in factories and impose penalties. **The Factory Act of 1844** It is an extremely important act in the history of family legislation.
