# Cardiovascular System Structure 1. **Components:** * Heart (main pump for blood) * Blood vessels (arteries, veins, capillaries) * Blood (circulating fluid) 2. **Heart Structure and Function:** * **Location:** Located in the thoracic cavity, slightly tilted to the left, between the lungs, and above the diaphragm. * **Chambers:** The heart is a muscular organ divided into two halves, separated by walls (septum). Each half has two chambers: an atrium and a ventricle. * **Atrium:** Positioned superiorly; smaller and have thinner walls. * **Ventricle:** Positioned inferiorly; larger and have thicker walls. * **Communication:** The atria and ventricles communicate through heart valves. * **Heart Valves:** * **Atrioventricular Valves:** * Tricuspid valve (right side) * Bicuspid valve (left side) * **Semilunar Valves:** Located between the ventricles and arteries. **Note:** Left side of the heart is shown as right, and vice-versa in the diagram.
