EXAMPLES A fifteen year-old owner of a bakeshop wanted to sell her cookies online. Knowing that web development is a complex subject, she checked online for a free website creation tool. She found WiX and she was able to put up her own website in just an hour. EXAMPLES The student council wanted to create a video for their upcoming fundraising project. EMPOWERMENT THROUGH ICT EMPOWERMENT is a strategy that aims to give individuals the tools and resources necessary to take initiative, as well as gather and analyze information or situations, thus making informed decisions to solve problems and improve services or performance. In the context of ICT, empowerment requires being information literate and technology literate. Different changes have been observed in four major aspects of life: 1. communication 2. economics 3. education 4. travel In 2002, the International ICT Literacy Panel defined TECHNOLOGY LITERACY as -the ability to use digital technology, communication tools, and/or networks to define an information need, access, manage, and integrate and evaluate information, create new information or knowledge and be able to communicate this ICT and SOCIETY (1) COMMUNICATION -Social networking sites - Instant messaging and video calls - Forums and webinars (web seminars) (2) ECONOMICS -Online marketing -convenient business transaction -online payment gateways (3) EDUCATION - Source of learning, teaching, and research materials - Online learning communities - Recording and computation of grades - Managing records and other administrative purposes (4) TRAVEL - Online booking and reservations - Online tracking and reservations With all these changes, the demands in the workplace (1) ICT skills have also changed dramatically. According to (2) Communication Harvard Business Review skills (2012), the top three (3) Analytical skills requirements for applicants today are: ACTIVITY 1.2. “ICT LITERACY CHECKLIST FOR STUDENTS” REFLECT ON YOUR OWN SKILLS.
