What is a cellphone? II. Body A. What are the advantages of using cellphones? 7 1. used for educational purposes 2. supplements lesson with digital media 3. provide easy access to more information 4. allows you to communicate with your family and friends easily B. What are the disadvantages of using cellphones? 1. distraction and interruption 2. can lead to cyber bullying 3. can be used for cheating in school 4. disconnection from face-to-face activities III. Conclusion A. Are you in favor of allowing pupils to use cellphones during class hours? Why? Why Not? B. Cite ways on how you can become a responsible cellphone user. Study the report based on the planned outline. Cellphone is a device used to make and receive calls or send messages. Nowadays, almost everybody has one or two in their pockets or bags. It is already a part of everybody’s life. Cellphone is a necessity. It is one of the very important gadgets or devices one should own. Why? Let me tell you some reasons. First, it is used to help pupils in their studies. A cellphone connected to the internet can motivate pupils do their studies. If there is any doubt in mind about something that the teacher was teaching, pupils can easily clear the doubts by just accessing to google or any educational website for further clarification. Through cellphones, pupils can also access to digital materials like videos, online discussions and many more. It encourages more participation and discussion between the pupils and teachers. Also, 8 cellphones bridge communication with the family and friends by talking or sending messages even without seeing them face-to-face. Cellphones can also be a bane if not properly used. It could be the source of distraction and interruption when pupils kept looking at their cellphones during class hours and teacher constantly telling pupils to turn their devices off. It could also lead to a problem with cyberbullying which is harder to see than any form of bullying in school. In addition to its harmful effect, it can also be used in accessing information while taking a test that leads pupils to cheating. In addition to the problem it brings, cellphones limit the face-to-face encounters or activities. The opportunity to be together, share ideas and work together is totally lost. After looking at the good and bad effect of using cellphones in the class, I agree that pupils be allowed to use it in the classroom. I believe this is a helpful device to help me in my studies. Life is hard without it at the present time; however, we should be responsible in using it by being safe and respectful in calls, texts and social media posts. − What is the report about? − Do you agree with all the facts presented in the report? Explain your answer. − What is your stand or opinion on this issue? Support your answer. − Do you agree with the author when he said life is hard without cellphone? Why? Why not? − If you will be asked to give some friendly advice on how to be a responsible cellphone user, what would it be? 9 What’s New The given report you have just read is the result of the planning of the contents of the report made in the previous lesson. Notice that the sequence of the paragraph is written as planned in the outline. The following tips are given as your guide and tips when you start writing on your own. Brainstorming * Brainstorm for ideas. * Write them down very quickly. * Write words or short notes. * Don't write sentences. Put Your Ideas in Order * Look through your notes. * Use numbers to put them in the order you want to mention them in writing. * You don't need to use all your ideas. * You can add more if you want to. Drafting * Now you really begin writing. Write away! * Don't worry about spelling, grammar, punctuation or the best wording. * Write on every other line. * Leave a wide margin. You can use this space for additions, comments... * Push yourself to the end of the first draft. Don't stop to correct yourself. * If unsure of the spelling of a word, put a? above it and go on. * If unsure of punctuation, put a dash (-) and go on. * If unsure about which word to use, write two or three words, or write the words in your main language, and go on. 10 If you run out of ideas: a. Look back at your preparation notes. b. Read what you have written so far. c. Put your writing away for a while. Revising The revising stage is where you check that: * You have said what you wanted to say. * You have said it in a clear and appropriate way. * You have said it in a way that will interest your reader. Here are some changes you may want to make when revising. * Changing the order of the parts (use arrows) * Taking out parts that are not necessary (cross over) * Adding parts (use your margin, write them after and put an arrow) * Saying something in a better way. * Combining two or three sentences into one. * Making long sentences into two or three shorter ones. Proofreading Proofreading is very important in the writing process. You should give it some time and attention in all your writing. * Changing parts that aren't good. * Substituting one word for another. (correcting vocabulary) * Correcting grammar, punctuation and spelling. * Use high quality vocabulary. (use your dictionary) At this point, you have done the hardest part and you don't want to lose points / quality for simple mistakes. Put some efforts in this last stage. It is one of the easiest stages but a very important one. Source: 2020.
