English 1 Word Meaning Name: _______________________________ Date Total Quarter 3 Issued: Score: Week 1 Grade & Section: ____________________ __________ ___________ Topic: Words that Describe Objective: Identify describing words in sectences and use them to describe people, objects, animals. Describing words are called adjectives. Adjectives tell us more about a person, place, animal, or thing. They can tell us how something looks, feels, sounds, tastes, or acts. We often use our five senses to help us describe the things around us. Do you remember what your five senses are? Let’s take a look at each of our senses to see how they help us describe things! See – When we use our eyes to see, we can describe things by it’s color, size, or shape. Example: The giraffe is very tall. Hear – When we ues our ears to hear, we can describe sounds around us that are loud or quiet. Example: Tim is whispering quietly to his mom. Smell – When we use our nose to smell, we can describe how things smell. Example: The flowers in the garden smell so good! Taste – When we use our tongue to taste, we can describe how the food we eat or drink taste like. Example: The candies I got for Halloween were very sweet. Touch – When we use our hands to touch, we can describe how different things feel. Example: The pillows in the hotel were so soft. Using adjectives with out senses helps us describe things better and helps others understand what we are talking about.
