This profession specializes in the development of computer systems, both hardware and software, designed to perform specific functions in real-time. COMPUTER ENGINEERING The computer engineering course typically takes four years to complete, and the following are the included subjects: Program languages Algorithms Data structures Computer systems Calculus Computer architecture Algebra ICpEP It means Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines. It was formed by a group of computer engineers in 1992 and was formerly known as Philippine Institute of Computer Engineers (PhICE). PhICE was active for only several years but computer engineers from different organizations cooperated to revive the organization. After several meetings the group decided to change its name to Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines (ICpEP). ”COMPUTER” - The term computer was originally the name for people who does calculations. - Nowadays “computer” means an electronic device or machine that have a software and hardware components that can input, process, output, and store data. CAREER PATHS FOR A COMPUTER ENGINEER Computer engineering offers numerous career paths and specialization opportunities. There are three main paths that a computer engineer could choose after graduating: Software Engineering Computer Hardware Engineering Network Engineering SOFTWARE ENGINEERING - With the use of different programming languages, they design, create, and improve software programs. - Professionals in this field specializes in different types of software, or mobile applications. COMPUTER HARDWARE ENGINEERING - This profession deals with creating new computers and technological hardware such as embedded systems. - In this field, professionals may build and test computer models and implement suggestions to optimize the speed of computers. NETWORK ENGINEERING - Network engineers plan, build, and maintain computer network systems. - Their responsibilities includes establishing network protocol, and designing and testing networking systems and hardware.
