Causes aspiration of amniotic uid, which is cleared at birth by 3 routes: 1. Through the nose and mouth by vaginal wall pressure during labour. 2. Into pulmonary circulation. 3. Into pulmonary lymphatics. Cardiovascular changes occur to allow for the 2 circulatory systems- a pulmonary and systemic circulation.
