Elbow Joint Complex 1. Anatomic considerations - HUMEROCUBITAL JOINT: - Throclear join - Flexion-extension - HUMERORADIAL JOINT: - Condylear joint - Flexion-extension - RADIOULNAR JOINT: physiological valgus - Pivot joint - Supination-pronation 2. Range of motion - FLEXION: - Active: 140º - 145º - Pavise: 160º - EXTENSION: 0 - 45º - SUPINATION: 75-90º - PRONATION: 75-90º 3. Main shoulder muscles - BICEPS BRACHII: Elbow flexion and supination - TRICEPS BRACHII: Elbow extension - FIRST RADIAL: Elbow flexion - SECOND RADIAL: Elbow flexion - LARGE SUPINATOR: Elbow flexion and forearm supination/pronation - SHORT SUPINATOR: Forearm supinator - TERES PRONATION: Elbow flexion and forearm pronation - ANCONEUS: Elbow extension 4. Tests: TRICEPS DIPS: - Performance: - Placed with tour back in front of a low bench, with the elbows and knees extended - Try to flex the elbows and come back - Outcome: number of repetitions during 1 minute - Clinical significance: triceps weakness BICEPS MUSCLE MANUAL TEST: - Performance: - Try to flex the elbow against the evaluator’s resistance - Outcome: number of repetitions during 1 minute + measure strength if we had a dynamometer - Clinical significance: biceps weakness and/or any injury in biceps tendon COZEN TEST: - Performance: - Elbow at 90º of flexion and next to the body - The evaluator is going to oppose resistance on the elbow and the wrist - Try to perform a wrist extension + radial inclination - Outcome: pain - Clinical significance: “Tennis player elbow” GOLFER TEST: - Performance: - Elbow at 90º of flexion and next to the body - The evaluator is going to oppose resistance on the elbow and the wrist - Try to perform wrist extension + ulnar inclination - Outcome: pain - Clinical significance: “Golf player elbow”
