Belief in the day of judgement Belief in the Day of Judgment is one of the central tenets of Islamic faith. It is a belief that was preached by All the Prophets from Adam to Muhammad ( ) blessing and peace of Allah be upon them all This belief gives meaning to the life we are living, for it shows us that we are not created without purpose, simply to live and die, and with death ends the story. The notion that our existence is without purpose is widespread among many different nations. This is the underlying belief that makes people pursue material gains and physical pleasures, regardless of ethical guidelines or morals. They think that the end of this life is the absolute end and that they have only one opportunity to seize pleasure, so they strive to do so, no matter what the cost. Not believing in the Hereafter renders any moral principle pointless. Why should a person sacrifice any pleasure he or she might achieve if there is no compensation in the Hereafter? This line of thought explains the chaos of worldly life, the abuse of nature, the greed and destructive behavior of man against his own self, his fellow- man and the world around him…. Belief in the Day of Resurrection and the Final Judgement is a belief that makes sense of a sometimes incomprehensible world. Almost on a daily basis, we see evil committed by people on every level from the individual to the global, and all too rarely do we see justice done in this world. But Islam tells us that on that Day, all scores will be settled with the utmost justice, and none shall be treated unfairly. This belief imposes controls on human greed and restrains people from committing transgressions for which they would ultimately have to answer. The Quran and Sunnah present a vivid picture of the Hereafter from the blowing of the Trumpet, the collision of the stars, the death of all living things except Allah, through the Reckoning and the weighing of man and his deeds, to the final gathering of creatures into the Fire of Hell or the Gardens of Paradise… These are all matters of Unseen which are known only to Allah, matters of which we can have no knowledge except that which Allah, by His mercy, tells us in His Books or through the words of His Prophet s.a.w. The day of judgement is characterized by the annihilation of all life, which will then be followed by the resurrection and judgement by God. It is not specified when al-Qiyamah will happen, but according to prophecy elaborated by hadith-literature, there are minor and major signs that will foretell its coming. The hadith contains several events, happening before The Day Of Judgement, which are described as several minor signs and 12 major signs. During this period, terrible corruption and chaos would rule the earth, caused by the Masih ad- Dajjal (the Antichrist in Islam) Then Prophet Isa a.s will appear, defeating the Dajjal and establish a period of peace, liberating the world from cruelty Islam teaches that there will be a resurrection of the dead that will be followed by a final tribulation and eternal division of the righteous and wicked. The righteous are rewarded with the pleasures of Jannah (Paradise)(InsyaAllah) The unrighteous are punished in Jahannam (Hell)(God Forbids) The names of the day of resurrection Allah s.w.t has called this Day – on which this universe will be destroyed and the Resurrection and Reckoning will take place – by many names. Everything that is of great status has many attributes and many names. This is the way in which the Arabs express the importance of a thing. Because the resurrection is so important and its terrors are so many, Allah s.w.t has given it many names in His Book, and has described it in many ways. (Imam al-Qurtubi) The most well known names: 1. Yawm al-Qiyamah (The Day of Resurrection) This name is mentioned in 70 verses of the Quran. “al-Qiyamah" is also the name of the seventy-fifth chapter of the Quran with 40 verses. It is so called al-qiyamah because of the great events which will happen on that Day, as described in the texts. One of the events is when people will stand before the Lord of the Worlds. 2. al-Yawm al-Akhir (The last day) This Day is called the Last Day, because it is the Day after which there will be no more days. {The mosques of Allah shall be maintained only by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day..} (9:18) Sometimes it is called al-Akhirah (the Hereafter) or al-Dar al-Akhirah (the Home of the Hereafter) 3. al-sa’ah (the hour) (‫)ا لساعة‬ {Verily, the Hour is coming – and I am almost hiding it} (20:15) Al-Sa’ah in Arabic refers to an unspecified portion of time. Customarily it refers to one of the 24 parts into which the night and day are divided, which are the basis of time. When it is mentioned in general terms, with alif and laam (of the definite article al-, in this case the generic al-”), it refers to the current time. The Resurrection is called al-Sa’ah either because:  it is close at hand, for everything that is coming is near, or as an indication of the tremendous, heart stopping vents that will happen on that Day. It was also said that it is called the Hour because it will come suddenly, in an instant. 38 Names of al-qiyamah ARABIC NAME ENGLISH TRANSLATION: ‫يوم الدِّيْن‬ Day Of Judgement ‫خر‬ ِ ‫يوم اآل‬ Last Day ‫يوم القيامة‬ Day Of Resurrection ‫ب فِيْه‬ َ ْ ‫يوم ال َري‬ A Day About which there is no doubt ‫صيْب‬ِ َ ‫يوم ع‬ A distressful Day ‫موْع‬ُ ‫ج‬ ْ ‫م‬َ ‫يوم‬ A Day where mankind will be gathered together ‫شهُوْد‬ ْ ‫م‬َ ‫يوم‬ A Day when all will be present ‫يوم الَ بيْعٌ فيه وَال‬ A Day on which there will be no mutual bargaining nor befriending ‫خالل‬ ِ ‫ت‬ ِ ‫ق‬ ْ ‫الو‬ َ ‫يوم‬ Day of the time appointed ‫وم‬ ُ ْ ‫عل‬ ْ ‫م‬ َ ‫ال‬ ‫س َرة‬ْ ‫ح‬ َ ‫يوم ال‬ Day of Distress ‫قيْم‬ ِ َ ‫يوم ع‬ Day of Disaster ‫م َرد َّ لَه‬ َ ‫يوم ال‬ A Day which none can avert it ‫يوم البَعْث‬ Day of Resurrection ‫يوم الفَتْح‬ Day of Decision ‫صل‬ ْ ‫يوم ال َف‬ Day of sorting out ‫ساب‬ َ ‫ح‬ ِ ‫يوم ال‬ Day of Account ‫يوم التَّالق‬ Day of mutual meeting ‫يوم اآلزفة‬ The Day that is drawing near ‫يوم التَّنَاد‬ The Day when there will be mutual calling. ‫مع‬ ْ ‫ج‬ َ ‫يوم ال‬ Day of Gathering ‫عيْد‬ ِ َ‫يوم الو‬ Day of Warning ‫خلُوْد‬ ُ ‫يوم ال‬ Day of Eternal Life ‫خ ُروْج‬ ُ ‫يوم ال‬ Day Of coming Out ‫سر‬ِ َ ‫يوم ع‬ A hard day ‫سم‬ِ ‫ح‬ ْ َ ‫يوم ن‬ A violent Day ‫مر‬ ِ َ ‫ست‬ْ ‫م‬ ُ ‫يوم التَّغَابُن‬ Day of Mutual Loss and Gain ‫سيْر‬ ِ ‫ع‬ َ ‫يوم‬ A Hard Day ّ‫حق‬ َ ‫يوم ال‬ Day of Truth ‫موْعُوْد‬ َ ‫يوم ال‬ Promised Day ‫ساعَة‬ َّ ‫ال‬ The Hour ‫الوَاقِعَة‬ The Event ‫الحآقَّة‬ The Reality ‫القَاَرِعَة‬ The Striking Hour ‫مة الكُبْرى‬ َّ ‫الطآ‬ The Greatest Catastrophe ‫خة‬ َّ ‫الصآ‬ The Trumpet Blasé ‫شيَة‬ ِ ‫الغَا‬ The Overwhelming major Signs of the hour 1.Appearance of Imam al-Mahdi 2.Appearance of The False Messiah – Anti-Christ, al-Masih ad-Dajjal 3.The return of Prophet Isa 4.The appearance of Yajuj and Ma’juj (Gog and Magog) 5.A huge black cloud of smoke will cover the earth 6.The Dabbat al-Ard (Beast of The Earth) 7.The Sun will rise from the West 8.3 Sinkings of The Earth – East, West and Arabia Appearance of Imam Mahdi Mahdi‫دي‬G‫ه‬G‫ )م‬meaning "guided one," is a messianic figure in Islamic tradition. He makes his first appearance in the hadiths and is thought as the first sign of the third period. Hadith reports state that he will be a descendant of Muhammad through Muhammad's daughter Fatimah and cousin Ali. The Mahdi will be looked upon to end the disintegration of the Muslim community, and to prepare for the reign of Jesus, who will rule for a time thereafter. The Mahdi will fulfill his prophetic mission, a vision of justice and peace, before submitting to Jesus' rule He will rule for seven years. REAppearance of prophet isa a.s: Isa is the Arabic name for Jesus, and his return is considered the third major sign of the last days (the second being the appearance of Jesus's nemesis Masih ad-Dajjal). Although Muhammad s.aw. is the preeminent Prophet in Islam, Jesus is mentioned in the Quran Thus, in accordance with post-Quranic hadith, Jesus conceivably will return to Earth as a just judge before the Day of Judgment Hadith reference both the Mahdi and Isa simultaneously and the return of the Mahdi will coincide with the return of Isa, who will descend from the heavens in al-Quds at dawn. The two will meet, and the Mahdi will lead the people in fajr prayer. After the prayer, they will open a gate to the west and encounter Masih ad-Dajjal. After the defeat of ad-Dajjal, Isa will lead a peaceful forty-year reign until his death. He will be buried in a tomb beside Muhammad in Medina. Though the two certainly differ regarding their role and persona in Islamic eschatology, the figures of the Mahdi and Isa are ultimately inseparable, according to the Prophet. Though Isa is said to descend upon the world once again, the Mahdi will already be present. Al-Masih ad-Dajjal Al-Masih ad-Dajjal‫ل‬G‫ا‬ ( ‫ج‬ّ ‫لد‬GG‫لمسيح ا‬GG‫ ا‬Al-Masīḥ ad- Dajjāl, "the false messiah, liar, the deceiver") is an evil figure in Islamic eschatology. He is to appear, pretending to be al-Masih (i.e. the Messiah), before Yawm al-Qiyamah (the Day of Resurrection). He is an anti-messianic figure, comparable to the Antichrist in Christian Al-Masīḥ ad-Dajjāl, with the definite article al- ("the"), refers to "the deceiving Messiah", a specific end times deceiver. The Dajjāl is an evil being who will seek to impersonate the true Messiah. Rasulullah s.a.w said: “Ad-Dajjal is blind in the right eye and his eye looks like a bulging out grape” (al-Bukhari) Prophet Muhammad exhorted his supporters to recite the first and last ten verses of Sura Al-Kahf(chapter 18 in the Qur'an), as protection from the trials and mischief of the Dajjal. Signs of coming of Al-Masih ad-Dajjal Hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad give many signs of the appearance of the Dajjal who would travel the whole world entering every city except Mecca and Medina. The following signs are ascribed to Ali in the coming of Dajjal: People will stop offering the prayers Dishonesty will be the way of life Falsehood will become a virtue People will mortgage their faith for worldly gain Usury and bribery will become legitimate There will be acute famine at the time There will be no shame amongst people Many people will worship Satan There will be no respect for elderly people Signs of emergence of dajjal The following signs will occur just before emergence and these signs are mandatory condition for Dajjal to appear. Drying up of Sea of Galilee (also called Lake Tiberias, is a freshwater lake in Palestine). When date-palm trees of Baisan (a city in the Northern District of Palestine) stop bearing fruit. Worship of Satan becomes common. The conquest of Constantinople (modern day Istanbul, Turkey) by the Islamic Caliphate. Signs post-emergence of dajjal He will do miracles and yield resources (minerals, food) from land by his power. He will lay siege across the world except the Islamic holy cities (Makkah and Medina). He will alter the coastal tides and bring chilled winds across the Red Sea. He would be recognizable by a true believer of Islam (aka; a mu’min). Ya’juj & Ma’juj Yājūj and Mājūj, in Islamic eschatology, two hostile, corrupt forces that will ravage the earth before the end of the world. They are the counterparts of Gog and Magog in the Hebrew Bible and the Christian New Testament. They are mentioned in suras 18 and 21 of the Qurʾān According to the Qurʾān, a certain people terrorized by Yājūj and Mājūj induced Zulqarnayn to construct between Yājūj and Mājūj a great wall that neither could scale or penetrate (18:94– 97), trapping both between two mountains until just before the Last Judgment (18:98–100, 21:96). A hadith states that they dig under the wall every night trying to escape, only to find each morning that the wall has been restored by Allāh. Only at the appointed time will Allāh allow the wall to collapse, freeing Yājūj and Mājūj. They will appear in large numbers in the northeast of the ancient world as portents of the end, then proceed south toward Israel, drinking up the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers or the Sea of Galilee and killing everyone along the way. When there are no more human targets left for their arrows, Yājūj and Mājūj will shoot at the sky, hoping to destroy heaven. Then Allāh will attack their necks with worms that will fill their ears and noses, thus killing them. minor Signs of the hour (end of time) The coming of fitna (tribulations) and removal of khusyu' (fearfulness of God, taqwah, reverence, etc. A person passing by a grave might say to another the following: "I wish it were my abode." Abundance of earthquakes. Frequent occurrences of disgrace, distortion, and defamation. When people wish to die because of the severe trials and tribulations that they are suffering. Jews fighting Muslims. When paying charity becomes a burden. Nomads will compete in the construction of very tall buildings. Women will appear naked despite their being dressed. People will seek knowledge from misguided and straying scholars. Liars will be believed, honest people disbelieved, and faithful people called traitors. The death of righteous, knowledgeable people. The emergence of indecency (obscenity) and enmity among relatives and neighbours. The Euphrates will uncover a mountain of gold. The land of the Arabs will return to being a land of rivers and fields. People will increasingly earn money by unlawful (Haram) ways. There will be much rain but little vegetation. Evil people will be expelled from Al-Madinah. Wild animals will communicate with humans, and humans will communicate with objects Nations will call each other to destroy Islam by any and every means.
