**DSM 5 Diagnosis Study** ***Mood Disorders*** **Bipolar-** Low Mood plus mania present for a period of 1 week (7 days) that leads to significant impairment in functioning. **Bipolar II** -- Hypomania plus past or current major depressive episode **Cyclothymia** -- Depressed Mood alternating wit...

**DSM 5 Diagnosis Study** ***Mood Disorders*** **Bipolar-** Low Mood plus mania present for a period of 1 week (7 days) that leads to significant impairment in functioning. **Bipolar II** -- Hypomania plus past or current major depressive episode **Cyclothymia** -- Depressed Mood alternating with Hypomania for two years going no more than 2 consecutive months without any symptoms **Unspecified Mood Disorder** -- client exhibits Fluctuations in mood but does not meet full criteria for a mood disorder **Bipolar I w/Psychotic features** -- Low mood and mania alternating with psychotic features low mood all the time with psychotic features coming in and out **Schizoaffective** -- Major Depressive plus schizophrenia criteria A (delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, disorganized behavior together for at least 1 week and then only having schizophrenia symptoms for a two-week period minus the depressed mood for two consecutive ways (Psychotic features Present all the time Depressed mood comes in and out) **Major Depressive Disorder** -- Person has either Depressed mood most of the day nearly Every day OR loss of interest or pleasure in almost ALL activities most of the Day nearly Every day plus 4 additional Depressed symptoms for the same 2-week period (persistent sad, hopelessness, anxious, empty mood, pessimism, anger outburst even over small matters, feelings of worthlessness, guilt, lack of energy to even complete small tasks, trouble thinking or remembering things, weight gain, weight loss, restlessness, irritability, low mood, insomnia, sleep disturbances-sleeping too much, fixating on past failures, trouble thinking, loss of appetite, overindulgence etc.) **Persistent Depressive Disorder**- r/o if Hypomania or Mania- having Depressed mood w/2 Additional depressed symptoms (restlessness, hopelessness, irritability, insomnia, over sleeping, overeating, lack of eating etc.) excluding Loss of Interest-on a Daily Basis for a 2-year period no going more than 2 consecutive weeks w/o symptoms. 1 year for children ***Psychotic Disorder Distinctions*** **Brief Psychotic Disorder** -- 1 day to 1 month r/o if there are negative symptoms present (flat affect etc.) **Schizophreniform** -- 1 month to 6 months (requires 2 symptoms) **Schizophrenia** -- 6 months or longer (requires 2 symptoms) ***Child/Adolescent Behavior Related Diagnosis*** **ADHD** -- Must r/o Learning disorder. Symptoms must be present before age 12 and in 2 different environments which impede functioning. Characterized by Inattentiveness, Hyperactivity and Impulsivity. **ODD** -- Characterized by 4 marked behaviors including: anger, defiance in following directions, **vindictiveness**, problems with authority over a 6-month period. **Conduct Disorder** -- Characterized by Crimes/ Violence against Rights of others, there are 3 out of 15 conduct related behaviors present in a 12month period with at least 1 being in the last 6 months (demonstrates lack of remorse. Can be precursor to anti-social personality disorder if it shows up b4 Age 15). **Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder** -- After Age 6 but **b4 Age 10** - Mood Disorder (chronically Irritable and moody 3 x's week) that is characterized by Temper Outbursts, Verbal Rages, and physical aggression towards ppl/property. Has a Noticeable Irritable Angry Mood daily between outbursts most of the day and can't be without symptoms for more than one day to be diagnosed with this **Intermittent Explosive Disorder** -- **Onset Age 6** -- 3 episodes over a 12-month period of difficulty controlling Aggressive outbursts. (**Can co-occur with ADHD, ODD, or Conduct Disorder**). Verbal aggression occurs 2x's a week for a period of 3 months. Or 3 episodes of Aggressive Outbursts w/physical injury or severe property damage over a 12mth period. Has failed to control Aggressive Impulses and is Impulsive but Impulsion is not Premeditated. ***Attachment Related Disorders in Children*** **Reactive Attachment Disorder and Disinhibited Social Engagement Disorders** (9 mths old to 5 years of age). **RAD** -- does not seek out or respond to comfort from caregivers. **DSE** -- Characterized by over attachment to strangers - will seek them out, Attaches very Easy. Has no Boundaries. **Separation Anxiety Disorder** -- (takes 4 weeks to Diagnose) - Anxiety concerning Attachment Figure -- can complain of physical symptoms when taken from Attachment Figure. (**DSM Anxiety Disorder**) ***Anxiety Related Disorders*** ***Generalized Anxiety Disorder** -- (GAD) -- (takes 6 months to diagnose in adults (3 symptoms required) and 4 weeks in children (1) symptom) Just about the Anxiety and Worry over several different things and has physical symptoms with it (restlessness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating.* ***Social Anxiety Disorder** -- Marked fear or Anxiety about one or more situations when an individual is subjected to the possible scrutiny of others.* ***PTSD** -- After 1 month of Stressor (age 6 years old plus)* ***Acute Stress Disorder** -- 3 days to month after incident* ***Adjustment Disorder w/Anxiety** -- Occurs w/in 3 months of stressor onset but ends no more than 6 months after stressor ends.* ***Adjustment Disorder w/Depressed Mood** -- Distress or Impairment with Low Mood (tearfulness, hopelessness). Does not pair with Bereavement disorder)* ***Panic Disorder** -- (Panic Attacks)- person lives in constants fear of panic attacks for 1 month or more.* ***Agoraphobia** -- (Requires 2) - Fear of Public transportation, open spaces, enclosed spaces, standing in line or being outside of Home.* ***Bereavement Disorders*** ***Bereavement** -- Experiencing grief after death or loss of loved one (Can pair with MDD if it impacts biological functioning, however, can't pair with adjustment disorder).* ***Prolonged Grief Disorder** -- (12mths to diagnose) bereavement that significantly exceeds social/cultural norms.* ***OCD vs. Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder*** ***OCD** -- The person has both obsessive thoughts and compulsive (repetitive) behaviors (1 hr.) which often requires treatment aimed at preventing or reducing anxiety.* ***OC Personality** -- (Anal)-Someone who is a perfectionist, can be very controlling or rigid and is often unaware of this. (The perfectionism interferes w/ completing tasks).* ***Personality Disorders*** ***Delusional Disorder** -- Persona has Bizarre/unbizarre Delusions (that something could happen, or Aliens are going to abduct them).* ***Schizoid Personality Disorder** -- "Are Loners"- Don't have any interests in Social Relationships (they are often isolated and are fine with it.* ***Avoidant Personality Disorder** -- They Actually want to Connect w/others but are Lonely out of fears of being rejected (they feel inadequate, and anxiety keeps them from connecting with others).* ***Schizotypal Personality Disorder** -- they are ODD Magical Thinkers (This is thought to be precursor to Schizophrenia0. -- These individuals dress oddly, have magical thinking, believe in Aliens, haven't crossed over to psychotic episode (imagines that articles are speaking directly to them.* ***Anti-Social Personality Disorder** -- Must be 18 years old or older- previously diagnosed w/Conduct Disorder b4 age 15, they have a pervasive disregard for the rights of others (engage in deception, lying and has lack of remorse).* ***Narcissistic Personality Disorder** -- (High Sense of Self-Importance)- Pervasive Pattern of Grandiosity, lack of empathy, Sense of Entitlement, perpetrators of Domestic violence, envious of others and can often fly into a rage.* ***Borderline Personality Disorder** -- (Has Abandonment Issues) -- Has a frantic fear of real or Imagined abandonment, Splits ppl into either all good or All bad categories(splitting), recurrent suicidal gestures, identity distortion, mood instability, known for instability in relationships.* ***Histrionic Personality Disorder** -- (Attention Seekers)- Pervasive attention seeking behaviors, seductive behavior, feels a need to be constantly attended to, very dramatic, center of attention.* ***Dependent Personality Type** -- (difficulty making Decisions or doing things on their own) -- Diificulty making decisions w/o seeking advice from others, has a hard time initiating, solving problems or doing things on their own, fears loss of support of others*
