Technical Drafting Definition of Terms Assembly drawing – is a drawing that shows how different parts of an object go together. Axonometric projection- is a type of orthographic projection used for creating a pictorial drawing of an object, where the lines of sight are perpendicular to the plane Isometric projection of projection, and the object is rotated around one or more of its axes to reveal multiple sides. Cabinet - is an oblique projection in mechanical drawing in which dimensions parallel to the third axis of the object are shortened one half to overcome apparent distortion. Cavalier- is an oblique projection with lines of projection at a 45° angle to the plane of projection. Compass – is an instrument used when drawing arcs and circle. Cycloid- is the curve traced by a point on a circle as it rolls along a straight line without slipping. Detailed drawing - is a drawing showing a single part of a machine Diametric projection- is a technical drawing that shows a 3-dimensional cube with one side of the cube smaller in proportion to the other two sides. Dimensioning – is the process of placing measurements in a drawing in the Metric or English system. Divider - is a drawing instrument used when transferring measurements, dividing lines, arcs into the desired number of equal parts. Drawing – is a picture, diagram made of lines, a graphic representation of real thing, an idea or a design for production or construction. Drawing pencil - is one of the most important tools of drafters because it is a tool used for drawing. EDPS – Is the common acronym of Electronic Data Processing System. Ellipse- is a plane curve surrounding two focal points, such that for all points on the curve, the sum of the two distances to the focal points is a constant. English system - is a mechanism of linear measurement where it is based on standard foot. Metric system – is a mechanism of linear measurement which it is based on the standard meter. Lettering- is an umbrella term that covers the art of drawing letters, instead of simply writing them. Mechanical drafting - is a process for making accurate drawings using special drawing tools and instruments. Multi view projection- is a technique of illustration by which a standardized series of orthographic two-dimensional pictures are constructed to represent the form of a three- dimensional object. Oblique projection- is a simple type of technical drawing of graphical projection used for producing two- dimensional images of three-dimensional objects. One-point perspective- is drawing which means that the illustration has a single vanishing point, usually (though not necessarily) directly opposite the viewer's eye and usually (though not necessarily) on the horizon line. All lines parallel with the viewer's line of sight recede to the horizon towards this vanishing point. Orthographic drawing – is the object is presented into two or more views by projecting the outline into the planes of projection perpendicular to each other. Perspective- is the art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other when viewed from a particular point. "a perspective drawing" Pictorial view – is the presentation of an object where it is viewed showing the three faces of an object are shown. Protractor – is used in determining gradations of the degrees when measuring arcs and circles. Sketch – is a quickly executed freehand drawing that is not intended as a finished work. Three point perspective - uses three sets of orthogonal lines and three vanishing points to draw each object. Trimetric projection - is a type of axonometric projection in which the object is shown with all three of its principal axes tilted unequally from the plane of viewing. Two-point perspective - uses two vanishing points placed on the horizon line. Is a type of linear perspective. Linear perspective is a method using lines to create the illusion of space on a 2D surface.
