44 DIGITAL ELECTRONIC THEODOLITE Introduction 22. TD-4 (Tamaya Digital - 4) is a digital electronic theodolite used for tracking the balloon in a pilot balloon ascent by recording elevation and azimuth automatically. The collected data from digital theodolite can be transferred to a computer for faster processing and generation of upper wind data. Following accessories are supplied with the digital theodolite: - (a) Tripod (b) Laptop with charger adapter and carrying bag (c) Eyepiece filters (d) Level vial adjusting pin (e) Earphone (f) Tubular compass (g) Battery charger (h) Battery (j) Carrying case 46 Setting Function and their Procedure 25. Mode Select. - 4) move the main telescope so that it passes the horizontal level and TD - 4 will be ready for measurement (Ready Mode). Press the UP / DOWN button in Ready Mode for the selection of under mentioned modes for the various settings of the TD-4 before the ascent. 26. This theodolite is having following four modes as under: - (a) Asset Mode. This is the mode for setting azimuth. (b) Data Mode. This is the mode for transferring, checking and deleting data. (c) Time Mode. This is the mode for changing intervals, date, and time. (d) Utility Mode. This is the mode for checking the Battery, switching between peripheral equipment and for setting & checking RS 232 C setting. Asset Mode 27. Setting Azimuth to Zero. Firstly, put the TD-4 in the ready mode and set the compass to the north. Follow the following steps in order to set Azimuth to 0°. (a) (b) Press SET. (c) appear). (d) (e) (f) Press SET (Azimuth set to 0°). 28. Setting Azimuth to Datum Point. This function is convenient when setting the horizontal angle of a known point. First put the TD - 4 in a ready mode; sight a known point with the main telescope. Now follow the following steps: - (a) button. CAN / MISS button can be pressed to go to previous menu / degree value. Time Mode 29. There are three functions in this mode. First is Interval, second is date and third is Time. 30. Setting of Interval. From ready mode, go to Time Mode by pressing UP / DOWN button. (a) Press SET button to get select: Interval. Again press SET button to change the time interval. The display NOW:TT NEW:TT appears (where TT is time in two figures). (b) timing as per requirement by pressing UP / DOWN switch. (c) Press SET button. 31. Setting of Time. From ready mode, go to Time Mode by pressing UP / DOWN switch. (a) Press SET button. (b) Press UP / DOWN button to get select: Time menu. (c) Press SET button to change the time. (d) Press the UP / DOWN button to change the time (e) Press the SET button after each set up for HH:MM: SS. 32. Setting of Date. From ready mode, go to Time Mode by pressing UP / DOWN button. (a) Press SET button 48 (b) Press UP / DOWN button to get select: Date menu (c) Press SET button to change the Date. (d) Press the UP / DOWN button to change the Date. (e) Press the SET button after each set up for YYYY: MM: DD. Data Mode 33. There are three functions in this mode. First is out, second is delete and third is look. (a) Out function is used for transfer of data to PC or Laptop. (b) Delete function is used for deleting of data from theodolite itself. Data once deleted cannot be retrieved again. (c) Look is used to see the data in the LED screen. 34. Procedure for Transfer of Data. (a) First switch the mode from ready mode to data mode by UP/DOWN switch. (b) Now press set mode to get menu. (c) Again press set to choose menu. (d) Change the to select: menu by pressing the UP / DOWN button. (e) Press the Set button to transfer the data from TD 4 to PC / Laptop. Utility Mode 35. There are five functions in this mode. The data displayed in this function is for information purpose only. They are as follows: - (a) BAT (b) Memory (c) Outset (d) RS-SET (e) RScond 49 36. BAT. From ready mode, go to Utility Mode by pressing UP / DOWN switch. (a) Press SET button to get select: menu. (b) Press SET button. The following display appears Bat ma : 7.00 V OK Where, ma : Operational battery In : backup battery Note. The following display appears on the LCD screen for operational and backup battery: - Display Type of Battery Battery Amount Remarks On LCD 7.00 V or more OK Nil Operational Battery Less than 7.0 V LOW Nil Recharge the Less than 6.8 V CHG battery 3.00 V or more OK Nil Backup Battery Less than 3.00 V LOW Nil TD 4 will not Less than 2.0 V CHG operate properly 37. Memory.From ready mode, go to Utility Mode by pressing UP / DOWN button. (a) select: (b) Press SET button. The display of the memory appears on the LCD screen. (c) Pressing CAN switch will take to the previous menu. 38. Outset. From ready mode go to Utility Mode by pressing UP / DOWN switch. (a) Press SET button (b) screen. (c) equipment. Note. If optional printer is not used for TD- 4, the is not to be selected under outset mode. The TD-4 will not measure even if the measurement is 50 started. Also, when is selected neither RS-232 C nor output data can be set under Data mode. 39. RS-SET. From ready mode, go to Utility Mode by pressing UP / DOWN button. Press SET button. Again press UP / DOWN button till select: RS- menu appears on LCD screen. This mode is used for connecting the TD 4 with peripheral equipment having RS-232 C interface. 40. RS-Scond. From ready mode go to Utility Mode by pressing UP / DOWN button. Press SET button. Again press UP / DOWN button till -Second menu appears on the LCD screen. This mode is used to check RS-232 setting. Operation 41. Open up the three legs of the tripod sufficiently and adjust the length of the legs in such a way that the head of tripod is horizontal and in the chest level of the observer. Tighten the screw of the legs. 42. While taking out the digital theodolite from its carrying case, do not hold the eyepiece assembly. Hold it by handle and mount on the tripod by tightening the adjustable screw of tripod. 43. Carry out the levelling of theodolite by adjusting the circular bubble and then horizontal bubble in the centre. Circular bubble can bring into the centre by adjusting the length of the tripod legs. Horizontal bubble is adjusted by the foot screws. 44. and check the amount of battery left, pass elevation centre point by raising the main telescope. 45. Set the date and time as per the procedure given in Time mode. 46. Mount the tabular compass and establish the magnetic North while observer and telescope facing towards North. Set the azimuth of the theodolite to the north by the procedure given in Asset mode. 47. If required connect the earphone to the earphone jack provided in the digital theodolite just below the volume control. 48. Prior to the release of the balloon, ensure the change lever is set for the auxiliary telescope and press SET / MEAS button at the same time the balloon is released. 49. Align the balloon initially by the open sight and bring it to the centre by looking through the eye piece. Start tracking the balloon by rotating the azimuth and elevation drums with its handle. Digital theodolite will make a buzzer sound three seconds before the selected interval and at the same time bring the balloon to the centre of the graticule. 51 50. After 3-4 minutes, shift the change lever to main telescope for further tracking with clear view. 51. Press SET / MEAS button to end the balloon tracking. The entire tracking data will be automatically stored in the memory of Digital theodolite. 52. Downloading Data from Theodolite (a) Place the theodolite near to PC. (b) Connect the RS - 232 cable between theodolite and Laptop and switch on the theodolite. (c) Click on the upwind icon at the desktop. (d) (e) Go to Data Mode in the theodo (f) After that, click e changes. (g) (h) Various charts can be viewed by selecting the options from the screen.
