Is 2 Dana N Jaber Layan Alnaimat Heba Alzer Teeth Landmarks We well discuss in this sheet the anatomical landmarks , features and terms , that some of them are specific for anterior teeth, some of them are specific for posterior teeth and some of them could be seen in all kinds of teeth. review: A, Anterior tooth. A, Apex AF, apical foramen SC, supplementary Canal B, bone. C, cementum PM, periodontal ligament PC, pulp canal G, gingiva. GC, gingival crevice GM, gingival margin PCH, pulp chamber D, dentin. E, enamel CR, crown B, Posterior tooth. A, Apices PC, pulp canal PCH, pulp chamber PH, pulp horn F, fissure CU, cusp CEJ, cementoenamel junction BI, bifurcation of roots. Marginal ridge 1- RIDGE : Means any linear elevation on the surface of a tooth , a ridge is named according to its location on the surface of a tooth. For example: The posterior teeth have two elevations on the mesial and distal sides ( on the margins ) , these elevations are called margifnal ridges. For anterior teeth they are found on the lingual surface. We will discuss the types 2- CINGULUM (plural : Cingula) : A bulge or elevation on the lingual surface of anterior teeth ( incisors / canines ). It’s found in the cervical third of the tooth. Its convexity mesiodistally resembles a girdle encircling het lingual surface a the cervical third 3- CUSP : (you can touch by your finger) An elevation on the crown portion of a tooth making up a divisional part of the occlusal surface of molar and premolar teeth , and on the incisal edges of canines. The sharp end that is responsible for cutting the food before grinding it. They are named according to their location. For example: the cusp that towards the lingual surface is called the lingual. The cusp that is mesial to the buccal is the mesiobuccal cusp. All teeth come from what's called a lobe and each tooth forms from several lobes which eventually fuse together to form the final shape of the tooth. example : molars form from four or five loops and incisors or canines are typically developed from three or four lobes. 4- TUBERCLE: Sometimes you see something like look like a small cusp, but it's not a cusp, how to differentiate between them? — Tubercle is very small and found either on the occlusal surface of a posterior tooth or the lingual surface of the anterior tooth. — Tooth doesn’t have a cusp in the middle of the crown. So the tubercle is an elevation on some portion of the crown produced by an extra formation of enamel , tubercles occur on the marginal regions or occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth or on the cingulum of anterior teeth. https://www.researchgate.net/publi cation/340087063_Dens_evaginatus Ridges Example Incisal Found on the incisal edges of the anterior teeth ridge Cut the food For anterior teeth: on the lingual surface. Marginal For posterior teeth: on the mesial and distal sides. ridge Triangular ridge starts on the tip of the cusp and go down to Triangula the central part of the occlusal surface of posterior tooth. r ridge The slopes of each side of the ridge are inclined to resemble two sides of a triangle , named after the cusps to which they belong (e.g the triangular ridge of the buccal cusp) Transvers e ridge Created when a buccal and lingual triangular ridges join , ( large elevation starts from one cusp and ends at the opposite cusp ). The union of two triangular ridges crossing a transversely across the surface of a posterior tooth. Oblique ridge Found only on the maxillary molars. Formed by the union of triangular ridge of the distobuccal cusp and the distal cusp ridge of the mesiolingual cusp. (Obliquely crossing) Named according to the location. ‫بكون التقاطع بشكل مائل‬ Cervical ridge Height of contour at the gingiva , on certain deciduous and permanent teeth. The cervical ridge is more prominent on deciduous teeth than on permanent teeth , usually more prominent on the buccal surface. Buccal or lingual Cusp ridge For anterior and posterior teeth: Start on the cusp tip then go down to the mesial and distal side. 5- FOSSA ( plural / fossae ): An irregular , rounded depression or concavity found on the surface of a tooth. It has three different types: 1.lingual fossa It is a depression found on the lingual surface of anterior teeth. 2.Central fossa It is a depression , like a valley found on the occlusal surface of molars. It’s formed by convergence of all the triangular ridges terminating at a central bottom point of the crown , where a junction of grooves occurs. 3.Triangular fossa Found on posterior teeth occlusal surface , mesial or distal to marginal ridges In the middle of the triangular fossa , there are triangular ridges. 6- SULCUS OR FISSURE : A long depression or valley ( has nothing inside )in the surface of a tooth between ridges and cusps , the inclines of which meet at an angle. Has a developmental groove at the junction of its inclines. Sometimes we close these fissures with fissure sealants to prevent food trapping 7- developmental primary groove: Sharply defined , narrow and linear depression , formed during tooth development and usually separating lobes (formed by the union of lobes , for example: the maxillary first molar formed by the union of five lobes) or major portions of a tooth. Named according to the location. ‫ المكونه للسن‬lobes ‫بكون خطوط بتفصل بين ال‬ 8- supplemental groove: Shallower liner depression on the surface of a tooth , less distinct and more variable than a developmental groove , doesn't mark the junction of primary parts of a tooth ( doesn't divide the tooth into defined areas ). 9- pits: Small pinpoint depression located in the junction of developmental grooves or at terminals of these grooves. ( The deepest part of the depression of these developmental groove) Named according to the location , central mesial and distal pit. Central pit is found in the central fossa A pit is often the site of the onset of dental caries 10- lobe: One of the primary sections of formation in the development of the crown Anterior teeth form from 4 lobes, 3 facial and one lingual , if they are not fused entirely then developmental grooves and mammelons form. Premolars form from 3 facial lobes and one lobe per lingual cusp ( with 1 lingual cusp → 4 lobes , with 2 lingual cusps → 5 lobes ). Molars form from one lobe per major cusp (4 or 5 lobes). 11- mamelon Is any one of the three rounded protuberances formed after the union of different incisors lobes , and found on the incisal ridges of newly erupted incisors. After a period of time, they will disappear either due to eating, friction between the teeth, or removal by the dentist. 12- contact areas : When mesial and distal surfaces of teeth meet , they could be seen in buccal , labial lingual, occlusal and incisal sides. Each Tooth has 2 contact area , except the last tooth on the arch , which only has a mesial contact area. Importance of contact points: Conserves the teeth from interproximal caries It creates a natural embrasure by maintaining good oral hygiene at the Interproximal area Preserves the stability and integrity of the arch by maintaining normal mesio-distal relationship of teeth. Prevent food impaction interdentally Protect the soft tissue from periodontal disease Contact areas are very important fortreating or making the compensation or making the procedentics, or the crown or the. Restoration for your patients 13- line angle A line representing the junction of two surfaces , derives its name from the combination of the two surfaces that join names Anterior teeth typically have 9 line angles , while posterior teeth have 8 line angles. For example the mesiolingual line angle ( mesial and lingual surfaces) ‫بالمختصر بسمي الالين حسب الجهتين اللي بربطهم مع بعض‬ 14- point angle : Formed by the junction of three surfaces , derives its name from the combination of the names of the surfaces forming it. We have 4 in each anterior and posterior tooth. These (line and point angles) are very important to communicate with other colleagues or with the technician. ‫روابط مهم ترجعولها وحكت عنها الدكتورة‬ https://www.researchgate.net/publi cation/340087063_Dens_evaginatus https://ptc-dental.com/dictionary/?exact=triangular %20ridge https://anatomy.app/article/ molars/first-maxillary-molar- part-2 Visiblebody.com https://www.researchgate.net/publicati on/331834105_Modelling of stress d”str ibution_and_fracture_in_dental_occlusal_ fissures https://www.google.com/search?q=contact+points+of+teeth&sca_es v-3f65f6f3 fecae64f&udm- 2&biw=1398&bih=778&ei-xxLkZt PK Wai-gP5v N2A0koq contact points+&gs lp- Egxnd3Mtd216LXNlenAiD2NvbnRhY3QgcG9pbnRzICoCCAAyBRAAGIAEMgUQABIAB DIFEAAYRAQYBBAAGB4yBLAAGAUYHJIGEAAYBRgeMgYQABgFGB4yBhAAGAUYHJIGEAAYBRgeMgYQABg FGB519CVQ AFi-GnAACACQAQCYAWmgADULqgEDOS42uAEBYAEA- AEBMAIPOAKTDMICCHAAGIAEGEMYigXCAggQABIABBIXAS ICDLAAGIAEGLEGIGGIQYAMBYAMBYAGWGWGW QxLjE00AeQSw&sclient-gws-wiz- serpi#vhid Mxx7FXXpljle0M&vssid mosaic ‫تمت كتابة هذا الشيت صدقة جارية عن روح والدة زميلنا عمرو رائد من دفعة تيجان‬ ‫دعواتكم لها بالرحمة والمغفرة‬ Thank you
