Introducing AWS ▪ Amazon.com Web Service launched in 2002 ▪ Amazon was planning to launch Merchant.com – an eCommerce platform for third-party shops ▪ The platform paved the way for Amazon to evolve from “online store” to “service company” ▪ The first cloud provider to offer cloud computing services ▪ It took competitors years to catch up, helping maintain AWS as the dominate cloud provider. ▪ Competitors are catching up (Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure) ▪ A large portion of the Amazon’s revenue is generated from AWS 16 Amazon Web Services (AWS) ▪ Cloud computing service provider that offers flexibility, reliability, and affordability ▪ Provides IT infrastructure services to organizations as web services ▪ Resources are accessed using the Internet ▪ Utilizes the pay-as-you-go model to help organizations save money, time, and human resources ▪ Services are Organized by Groups ▪ https://aws.amazon.com/ 17 Compute Services ▪ Provide virtual server hosting, container management, and serverless computing ▪ Instead of hosting servers themselves, organizations can “rent” server compute space and capabilities ▪ No longer have to purchase physical servers or maintain data centers on-premises 18 AWS Storage Services ▪ Provide storage for both in-use and archival files ▪ Different costs associated with how often you need to access the files and how durable or available you want them to be ▪ Storage type for almost every level of need with very granular costs to meet budget requirements ▪ https://aws.amazon.com/products/storage 19 AWS Database Services ▪ Fully managed relational and NoSQL databases ▪ Also offers fully managed scalable petabyte- scale data warehouse service https://aws.amazon.com/products/databases/ 20 WHAT IS CLOUD COMPUTING? Cloud Computing is not New ▪ Mainframe Computing (1950s) – Dumb Terminal – https://www.pcmag.com/news/the-forgotten-world-of-dumb-terminals ▪ Virtual Machines – Multiple complete operating systems hosted by a single hardware device ▪ Hypervisors – Software that links multiple hardware devices to use as one giant resource 22 Cloud Computing in Daily Life Google Drive, One Drive – Cloud storage service for file – Supports automatic backup of files from computer to cloud Collaboration tools to edit shared documents 23 Cloud Computing at Work ▪Eliminate the need to manage a data center No need for physical servers or cabling No need for server room setup or maintenance No hardware replacement or procedure Pay only when and what you consume Scale up or down instantaneously and only pay for what you use You don’t have to worry about buying too much or too little of something Benefit from economy of scale 24 Advantages of Cloud Computing 1. Trade capital expense (CAPEX) for variable/operating expense (OPEX) 2. Benefit from massive economies of scale 3. Stop guessing about capacity (Elasticity) 4. Increase speed and agility 5. Stop spending money running and maintaining data centers (No maintenance of hardware) 6. Go global in minutes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzoiTsku44U NIST Cloud Computing Model Essential Cloud Characteristics Cloud Service Models Three primary cloud service models: ▪ Software as a Service (SaaS) ▪ Platform as a Service (PaaS) ▪ Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Anything as a Service (XaaS) NIST Cloud Computing Model CLOUD DEPLOYMENT MODELS Cloud Deployment Models ▪ Public Cloud (Them) – Services are shared among many unrelated organizations. Cloud Deployment Models ▪ Public Cloud (Them) – Third-party cloud provider hosts a public cloud – A cloud-based application is fully deployed in the cloud, all parts of the application run in the cloud (AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure) – Applications in the cloud have either been created in the cloud or have been migrated from an existing infrastructure to take advantage of the benefits of cloud computing – Multiple tenants – Most widely deployed cloud model Cloud Deployment Models ▪ Private Cloud (You) – Services are only available to the enterprise that owns the private cloud. Cloud Deployment Models ▪ Private Cloud (You) – A private cloud gives a single Cloud consumer organization the exclusive access to and usage of the infrastructure and computational resources. – Private deployment doesn’t provide many of the benefits of cloud computing but is sometimes sought for its ability to provide dedicated resources. – In most cases this deployment model is the same as legacy IT infrastructure where you need to purchase the hardware, put it all together, install the application and maintain the infrastructure while using virtualization technologies to try and increase resource utilization. – Organizations have direct control of resources and data. Cloud Deployment Models ▪ Community Cloud (Together) – Services are shared among only a specific group of related organizations. Cloud Deployment Models ▪ Community Cloud (Together) – A community cloud serves a group of cloud consumers, rather than serving a single organization such as private cloud. Community cloud have shared concerns, such as on- site and outsourced community cloud as shown in the following figure. – https://aws.amazon.com/government- education/government/ Cloud Deployment Models ▪ Hybrid Cloud (Both You and Them) – Any combination of the other three cloud models. – Composition of two or more clouds, on-site private, on-site community, off-site private, off-site community or public. – Enables Cloud Bursting: when a private cloud hits capacity, temporarily move overflow to the public cloud. Cloud Deployment Models ▪ Multi Cloud (Multiple Vendors) – Combination of different cloud provider services – Avoid vendor lock-in – More difficult to manage Cloud Deployment Models ▪ Multi Cloud Source https://gcloudvn.com/en/kienthuc/multi-cloud-xu-the-nen-tang-cloud/ CLOUD PROVIDERS Cloud Providers – Azure https://azure.microsoft.com/ https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/certifications/ https://azure.microsoft.com/en-ca/pricing/calculator/ Cloud Providers - GCP https://cloud.google.com/ https://cloud.google.com/certification https://cloud.google.com/pricing https://cloud.google.com/learn/certification/cloud-digital-leader/ Cloud Providers - IBM https://www.ibm.com/cloud https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/overview?topic=overview-cloud-certifications https://www.ibm.com/cloud/pricing CAREER CERTIFICATIONS Professional Certifications ▪ Google Certifications https://grow.google/certificates ▪ Microsoft Certifications https://docs.microsoft.com/en- us/learn/certifications/ ▪ Amazon Certifications https://aws.amazon.com/certification 45 AWS SERVICES Amazon SageMaker AI https://aws.amazon.com/sagemaker-ai/ Amazon Generative AI https://aws.amazon.com/ai/generative-ai/ Amazon Bedrock https://aws.amazon.com/bedrock/ Amazon Q https://aws.amazon.com/
