Grade Nine Exam Review Notes to know… All notes will be used for the multiple choice questions. Things to know… 1.List and explain the two main groups into which modern Bible readers divide. (Path Through Scripture page 9-10) The two types of readers in the bible are contextual and literal. Contentual readers take it with a grain of salt. They believe some of it. Literal readers believe every single thing in the bible by the exact way it's described. 2.List and explain the four truths the biblical author teaches through the first creation story. (Path Through Scripture page 13) There is only one God, God planned everything, God created everything Good and God made the sabbath holy. These are the four truths God planned. 3.What two ways does sin alienate people from nature? (Path Through Scripture page 21) Sin alienates people from nature in two ways. The soil brings weeds and thorns which causes them labor and sweat. Second, the couple’s body was no longer under their own control. 4.The chain of sin stories (Genesis 3-11) leaves us with two important conclusions. What are they? Moses grew up in the house of pharoah and when he was in his twenties he saw an egyptian man beating on a hebrew slave. Remembering his roots Moses struck the egyptian killing him. After this he was scared of pharoah where he fled to midian. 7.List the ten commandments. (Path Through Scripture page 47) 1.Worship no God but me.2 Do not use my name for evil purposes.3. Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy.4 Respect your father and your mother.5. Do not commit murder.6 Do not commit adultery. 7 Do not steal. 8 do not accuse anyone falsely. 9 Do not desire another man’s wife. 10 Do not desire anything else another person owns. 8.List and explain the three stages by which the Gospels developed. The life stage is what the disciples saw and heard. 2 preaching stage what the apostles preached. 3 written stage what the evangelists recorded. 9.What three things are especially remarkable about Luke’s description of the birth of Jesus? Explain. (Path Through Scripture 103) First Luke identifies Jesus with the “promised one”. This is saying that Jesus is the messiah. Second point is how Jesus entered the world. He entered the world not as the son of a powerful king. Instead he is born into poverty being the son of a carpenter and being born in a cave. 10.List and explain the three ceremonies that surrounded the birth of Jewish males in biblical times. (Path Through Scripture page 108) The three ceremonies of around the birth of every jewish male are circumcision,presentation and purification. Circumcision is to put them into the community of God. Presentation. Purification to welcome the mother back to worshiping after giving birth. 11.List and briefly explain the three points that deserve special note with regard to Jesus’ crucifixion. Despite Jesus’ pain he prayed. 2 Marks reference to the temple and the tearing of the temple curtain. 3 the roman soldiers act of faith in Jesus he proclaimed that Jesus was indeed the sun of God. 12.Choose one of the beatitudes and explain it thoroughly in your own words. (Be With Me page 206-210)Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.The phrase "poor in spirit" refers to a spiritual condition of poverty. It describes a person who recognizes his or her need for God. "The kingdom of heaven" refers to people who acknowledge God as King. One poor in spirit knows he or she is spiritually bankrupt apart from Jesus Christ. 13.What is the decision-making process? Can you list the four basic steps and explain each one briefly? (Be With Me page 80-81) The decision making process is the steps we should take into consideration when making a big or important decision. The four basic steps are seeing,judging, acting, and evaluating. Seeing means to see that decisions are made. Judging means analyzing the options you have to make a loving decision. Acting means deciding to do the loving thing. Evaluating means becoming aware of how those decisions affected your relationship with God. 14.What are the three basic principles which must be considered when evaluating any decision? (Be With Me page 106) 1. We must never do evil even for the sake of accomplishing something good.2 We should always treat others with the same love and respect with which we wish to be treated 3. everything we do should reflect a genuine concern for other people.
