FREEDOM Presented By : Libo-on, Militar, Panganiban, and Perero 1 WHAT IS FREEDOM? To put simply freedom is the ability to act , say and think what we want without being under control of influenced by outside forces. 2 FREEDOM AND RESPONSIBILITIES As we know freedom is the ability to do what we want. Responsibilities acts as a indicator which limits what we can do, and hold us responsible for your actions. 3 TYPES OF RESPONSIBLITIES Social- refers to ones duty to contribute in the well-being of the society. Environmental- refers to the responsibility to maintain the health of the environment. Moral- as a moral person you have the duty to make decisions that does not affect others. Accountability- you are responsible for your actions 4 MAN AS LIBERTY The concept of man as liberty can be understood as the idea that human beings embody freedom, and have strive for freedom. 5 LIBERTY AND HISTORY Over history human society has a concept of liberty and have evolve over the course of time. We can see this for example in ancient Greece specifically Athens wherein democracy was born. 6 LIBERTY AND HISTORY Ancient Greece- Concept of liberty as democracy, individuals should live as they see fit. Magna Carta- John of England (1215) Renaissance- Liberty is a inherent right and should be protected by laws French Revolution- Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, against the monarch American Revolution- Declaration of Independence MAURICE MERLEAU-PONTY 7 French philosopher and a public intellectual , born on year 1908 and died on year 1961. Best known for his works on embodiment, perception and ontology. MAURICE MERLEAU-PONTY 8 He argues the point of Jean-Paul Sartre’s take on freedom that it is absolute and unconditional. Rather our freedom is intertwined with others MERLEAU-PONTY CONCEPT 9 OF FREEDOM FREEDOM is not fixed, but rather it is the interaction of ones self to the world. How we perceive and how we react to our surroundings. Freedom is contextual. 10 TWO TYPES OF FREEDOM Positive- refers to the type of freedom where you can move freely within set of rules i,e. the government. This type of freedom gives tends more to fairness rather than total freedom. Group Negative- refers to type of freedom which there are no external constraints, no laws or regulations that limit your movement. “Total Freedom”. Individual 11 TWO TYPES OF FREEDOM Positive freedom focuses more on the overall freedom for groups of people such as passing laws for the benefit of all and help facilitate liberty for all. “Freedom to” Negative freedom focuses more on the individual freedom that does not concern the group hence total freedom. Freedom from 12 FREEDOM AND JUSTICE Freedom and Justice goes hand and hand. Justice serves as check and balances to ensure our inherent rights such as freedom is equal and fair to all 13 FREEDOM AND JUSTICE Freedom of speech- Every one is granted to have opinions for every matters that they want. Although you can say what you want you cannot say threats, discriminatory, racism and derogatory words towards others THANK YOU
