Lesson 5 Popular Contemporary Artwork Techniques Part 1 Here are the three techniques that most relevant in contemporary art today. 1. Minimalism 2. Found Objects 3. LARGE-SCALE ARTS Minimalis m FOUND OBJECTS A found object is a natural or man-made object, or fragment of an object, that is found (or sometimes bought) by an artist and kept because of some intrinsic interest the artist sees in it. LARGE-SCALE ART LARGE-SCALE ART Large-scale art Large scale art is more than just a painting that happens to be oversized. By design, it is larger than life, often massive enough to fill a room. Its impact is deliberate and it is meant to overwhelm by itself, command a space, and dwarf everything else that comes near it. MURAL A mural is any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall, ceiling or other permanent surfaces. A distinguishing characteristic of mural painting is that the architectural elements of the given space are harmoniously incorporated into the picture. Large paintings include any frame size between 30 inches by 40 inches and 36 inches by 48 inches. Another large frame size is 48 inches by 72 inches. This extremely large painting is typically only used by professional painters and takes up a huge amount of wall space.
