Mouse The mouse is connected to the cursor on the screen. When the mouse is moved, the cursor moves too. The mouse has buttons which allow access and control over programs. Laptop A personal computer that can be easily moved and used in different places. A laptop has a lot less cables than a desktop computer. Keyboard A keyboard has lots of different keys, such as numbers, letters and symbols. The keys are used to enter information into the computer. Monitor This part of the computer is like a TV. It shows you what you are doing on the computer. Printer A machine that copies information, such as your work, from the computer on to paper. Speakers These connect to the computer so everyone can hear the sound being made. Headphones These can be connected to the computer or the speakers through wires or wireless technology. An individual person wears them on their head and they are the only person who can hear the sound. USB Drive This is a storage device. It is small and holds lots of information. It plugs into a computer. This is sometimes referred to as a pen drive or memory stick. Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) Similar to a monitor but on a larger scale. An interactive whiteboard shows everyone what you are doing on a computer. The computer can be controlled from the IWB, usually using a digital pen. Wireless Router This machine allows many computers to connect to each other, using the Internet or a network. Tablet This is a mobile computing device designed to be held in one or two hands. They have a touchscreen and can be taken anywhere. Coding Robot An electronic toy that is controlled by giving it a set of instructions, also known as an algorithm. Camera A device that is used to take photographs of people and objects. Some cameras, such as video cameras, can record moving pictures.
