23/10/2024 30/10/2024 Photoshop is the industry-standard photo editing software, and the go-to application for everything from small retouching changes to mind-bending photo art. Photoshop is where editors crop photos, adjust photo composition, correct lighting, and make any subject imaginable look its absolute best. Layers in Photoshop are Images stacked on top of each other The tool bar (or tool panel) is located by default on the left hand side of the work area. It contains mouse based tools that are used for editing and navigation in Photoshop. Photoshop Tools and Their Functions Move Tool (V) is used to move layers, selections and guides within a Photoshop document. Enable "Auto-Select" to automatically select the layer or group you click on. Lasso Tool (L) Selects an area in your image in a free-form shape. Polygon Lasso Tool (L) Click around an object to surround it with a polygonal, straight-edged selection outline. Magnetic Lasso Tool (L) snaps the selection outline to the edges of the object as you move your mouse cursor around it. Photoshop Tools and Their Functions Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) draws rectangular selection outlines. Press and hold Shift as you drag to draw a square selection. Burn Tool (O) The Burn Tool will darken the areas you paint over. Magic Eraser Tool (E) The Magic Eraser Tool is similar to the Magic Wand Tool in that it selects areas of similar color with a single click. But the Magic Eraser Tool then permanently deletes those areas. Quick Selection Tool (W) lets you easily select an object simply by painting over it with a brush. Enable "Auto-Enhance" in the Options Bar for better quality selections. Photoshop Tools and Their Functions Magic Wand Tool (W) selects areas of similar color with a single click. The "Tolerance" value in the Options Bar sets the range of colors that will be selected. Crop Tool (C) to crop an image and remove unwanted areas. Eyedropper Tool (I) Selects the color at the cursor Rectangle Tool (U) draws rectangular vector shapes, paths or pixel shapes, with sharp or rounded corners. Press and hold Shift as you drag to force the shape into a perfect square. Photoshop Tools and Their Functions Gradient Tool (G) draws gradual blends between multiple colors. The Gradient Editor lets you create and customize your own gradients. Pen Tool (P) allows you to draw extremely precise paths, vector shapes or selections. Brush Tool (B) is Photoshop's primary painting tool. Use it to paint brush strokes on a layer or on a layer mask. Clone Stamp Tool (S) is the most basic of Photoshop's retouching tools. It samples pixels from one area of the image and paints them over pixels in another area. Resolution Pixels represent tiny squares of color, which are typically unseen by the naked eye The amount of detail in an image. Digital images are measured by the number of pixels per inch (ppi). For printing, resolution is measured by the number of dots printed in a linear inch (dpi). The higher the resolution, the larger the file size. The best resolution for your project depends on its purpose. For print resolution, 72 DPI is generally considered too low, and may be better suited to small icons that do not need to be high-quality. 300 DPI meanwhile is the printing standard for photos and professional brochures, which need to look crisp and detailed. Color mode Color mode refers to the types of colors you will be using in your image. CMYK and RGB are the most important of these modes to be familiar with. CMYK is the setting for images that will be printed to paper. The letters refer to the four channels of color used to create every color available: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. RGB refers to the three channel color mode suitable for images to be viewed on the web: red , green, and blue. Primary colors consist of: Blue, Red, Yellow Secondary colors consist of: Orange, Purple, Green Some shortcuts 1) Ctrl + T (To perform free transform). 2) Ctrl + D (To Deselect). 3) Ctrl + Shift + D (To Reselect). 4) Ctrl + Shift + I (To Inverse). 5) Ctrl + Z (Undo). 6) Ctrl + Shift + Z (Redo). 7) Ctrl + Shift + S (Save). 8) Ctrl + G (group Layers).
