The cause can be prenatal, perinatal, or postnatal. Article Information: Developmental disabilities. Published in: Salem Press Encyclopedia of Health,2021,Research Starters By: Kowalski, Gabrielle Summarize/paraphrase the source text above and insert an in-text citation at the end of your sentence Quotations Short Quotations Use quotations rather than paraphrasing: When reproducing an exact definition When an author has said something memorably or succinctly When you want to respond to exact wording Short quotations are fewer than 40 words How to format short quotations: Incorporate the quote into your own sentence Add quotation marks at the beginning and end of the quotation Include an in-text citation after the quotation to give credit to the original course Example: Effective teams can be difficult to describe because “high performance along one domain does not translate to high performance along another” (Ervin et al., 2018, p. 470). Long Quotations Quotes that are 40 words or longer need to be formatted differently How to format long quotations Start quotation on a new line Do not include quotation marks Indent margins ½ inch and type the entire quote in new margin Continue your sentence on the next line (no indentation/avoid extra spacing) Example: Jones’s (1998) study found the following: Students often had difficulty using APA style, especially when it was their first time citing sources. This difficulty could be attributed to the fact that many students failed to purchase a style manual or to ask their teachers for help (p. 99). Long Quotations Reference List Reference List: Basic Rules Hanging indents should be used for the reference list entries. This means that all lines after the first line of each entry should be indented one half inch from the left margin Arrange reference list entries in alphabetical order by the surname of the first author or by title if there is no author. Use only the initial(s) of the author's given name, not the full name, with a space between the initials. If the reference list includes two or more entries by the same author(s), list them in chronological order (oldest first). Add a lower case letter (a, b, etc.) after the year, within the parentheses. Capitalize only the first letter of the first word in the article or book title. Proper nouns are also capitalized as well as the word following a colon (subtitle). Journal titles should have every major word capitalized. Italicize journal titles, volume numbers and even the comma following the journal Hyperlinks for online sources must be active, you will know they are active because they will be blue and underlined Citation Generator Click on this link to add My Bib Citation Generator as an extension to chrome.
