Typology of Islamic Tourism: Mosque Tourism CIT 10303 Islamic Tourism Concept The ideas of Islamic tourism have been suggested and categorized into three main concepts which are: Economic, Cultural, and Relgious-conservative concepts (AlHamarneh, 2004). Funtions of Mosque In the past, mosques play diverse roles, including for educational, political, and community events. As known to the public, mosques are primarily utilised for congregational prayers. Symbolically, mosque is a direct manifestation of Islam, which portrays the Muslim identity. Mosque Tourism Both environmental and man-made factors shaped the architecture of mosques. These factors include the background of Muslims migrants to these countries, colonialism, laws, history and cultural traditions, and materials available during the constructions.
