EQ EQ IS LARGELY BASED ON 4 PRINCIPLES: 1. Self-Awareness – recognition of one’s emotions and their effects, own strength and limitations, ability to notice reoccurring behavior and reactions. 2. Self-Management- You know what to do to control your emotions and effective ways to use your emotions to guide and direct your behavior. eg. How to use anger in a productive way. Your mental health : Paranoid Personality disorder Eating disorders Anxiety and Depression Reasons of low EQ Parenting styles, society, personality type. SOME RECENT FINDINGS EXAMINING THE IMPACT OF EQ ON STUDENT SUCCESS Higher achieving students demonstrated higher Total EQ, Intrapersonal Skills, Stress Tolerance and Adaptability Students who are anxious or depressed get lower grades/lower achievement scores Students who can delay gratification earn better grades and have an average of 210 more points on their SAT tests Students who respond to setbacks with hope and resilience achieve higher academic and social success than students respond with. anger and hopelessness. 9 Continuation Resiliency training can improve the resiliency of students EQ skills can be enhanced in a college transition course Low levels of empathy are associated with poor achievement HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR EMOTIONAL 10 INTELLIGENCE Observe how you react to people Practice humility Do self-evaluation to find out your strength and weaknesses.
