Even after the advent of electronic media, the print media has not lost its charm or relevance.  Print media has the advantage of making a longer impact on the minds of the reader, with more in-depth reporting and analysis. Electronic Media  Electronic media are media that use electronics or electromechanical energy for the end-user (audience) to access the content.  This is in contrast to static media (mainly print media), which today are most often created electronically, but don't require electronics to be accessed by the end-user in the printed form.  The primary electronic media sources familiar to the general public are better known as video recordings, audio recordings, multimedia presentations, slide presentations, CD-ROM and online content.  Most new media are in the form of digital media. However, electronic media may be in either analog or digital format. Interactive Media  Normally refers to products and services on digital computer-based systems which respond to the user’s actions by presenting content such as text, graphics, animation, video, audio, etc.  Related to the concepts interaction design, new media, interactivity, human computer interaction, cyber-culture, digital culture, and includes specific cases such as, for example, interactive television, interactive narrative, interactive advertising, algorithmic art, videogames, social media, ambient intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality. Differences Between Electronic Media and Interactive Media Medium, Element and Media Transmission  Medium Definition: A medium refers to the channel through which information or content is transmitted from the sender to the receiver. It acts as the bridge between the communicator and the audience.  Examples: ❖ Print Media: Newspapers, magazines, brochures. ❖ Broadcast Media: Television, radio. ❖ Digital Media: Websites, social media platforms, emails. ❖ Multimedia: Combines text, audio, images, and video (e.g., podcasts, online videos). Medium, Element and Media Transmission  Media Transmission  Definition: Media transmission refers to the methods and processes used to deliver messages through various media. It involves how information is sent, received, and processed across different channels.  Types of Media Transmission: 1. Analog Transmission: Transmits information in a continuous signal, such as traditional radio and television. 2. Digital Transmission: Uses discrete signals, converting data into binary code for efficient and reliable transmission (e.g., streaming video, online communications). 3. Wireless Transmission: Uses electromagnetic waves to transmit information without physical connections (e.g., Wi-Fi, mobile networks). 4. Wired Transmission: Involves physical connections, such as fiber optics or copper cables, to transmit data. Medium, Element and Media Transmission  Element Definition: Elements are the components that make up the communication process. They include various factors that influence how a message is created, delivered, and interpreted.  Key Elements: 1. Sender: The person or organization conveying the message. 2. Message: The content or information being communicated. 3. Encoding: The process of turning thoughts into communicable messages (e.g., writing, speaking). 4. Channel: The medium through which the message is transmitted. 5. Receiver: The individual or group that receives and interprets the message. 6. Decoding: The process by which the receiver makes sense of the message. 7. Feedback: The response from the receiver back to the sender, indicating whether the message was understood. Class Activity: Week 3: Real World Scenarios In group of 10, collaborate on solutions for media production challenges. 1. Choose a scenario from the provided list and add a post to the corresponding column. You may add other challenges. 2. State one real situation of the scenarios. 3. Propose alternatives solution to the scenario, focusing on appropriate technology and processes. 4. Include at least one attachment (link, image, or video) to support your argument. 5. Present to class. End of Chapter 2
