Why is retailing is the most popular business in the Philippines? We are all familiar with Mercury drug store, 7 – Eleven, McDonald’s, Burger king or SM. All are retailers with very familiar names to all. Many filipinos are getting into sari-sari store business to have an additional income and to be able to sell goods directly to consumers. Retailing is the selling of goods in small quantities and services directly to consumers for individual or households consumption. Retailing Retailing includes all transactions in which the buyer uses the product purchased or services rendered for personal, family, or friends use. The Retailer is the person who runs the retail store. The retailer offers assistance to consumer. Retailer He/she sells goods and services directly to consumers for personal, non business use this form of selling to consumers includes home, store and mail-order selling. RETAILING FUNCTIONS RETAILING FUNCTIONS A Retailer sells the product to consumer in small quantities. The retailer promote the local industries and provides job opportunities to many men and women in our country RETAILING FUNCTIONS Moreover the retailer has provided place, time, possession and sometimes utility for their suppliers and customers. RETAILING FUNCTIONS Retailing is found in many places. Home, offices, store, roadside, city streets, television, hotels restaurant, the process of retailing vary with the area of activity. Retailing encompasses the business activities involved in selling goods & services to consumers for their personal, family, or household use. It includes every sale to the final consumer – ranging from cars to apparel to meals at restaurants to movie tickets. CLASSIFICATION OF RETAIL STORES SARI-SARI STORE or GENERAL STORE the sari-sari store owned by one person or family is the most common retail store in our community. Its specialty is to sell goods in small quantities to end users like us. SUPERMARKETS It is a self – service store. The prices of goods are lower than the sari – sari stores. This type operates on a cash – and – charge basis. DEPARTMENT STORES It carries dry goods as its major items. It develop from the small stores called bazaar where items for sale are also encouraged to reduce the prices of goods for the welfare of the consumers. SHOPPING CENTERS Are now popularly known as malls. The mall of a shopping center is an open area sorrounded by retail stores and are under one roof. SPECIALTY STORES Are commonly known as single line store. These are stores that carry a single or closely allied line of products. CLASSIFICATION ACCORDING TO SELLING METHOD TRAVELLING STORE This type of selling is experienced when the seller visits the customers personally. Mail – Order & telephone selling Selling made possible by facilities offered by the delivery system. Buyers are sent letters and catalogues containing illustrations, descriptions, prices of items. AUTOMATIC VENDING MACHINE Selling is possible by the use of automatic machines. CASH AND CARRY STORES This type of selling offer all goods to be sold on cash basis only. E-TAILER Electronic retailing (E-tailing) is the sale of goods and services through the internet. E-tailing can include business- to-business (B2B) and business-to- consumer (B2C) sales of products and services.
