Summary
This document is a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for changing tools on a CAM 2 Heian machine. It details the steps involved, including setting up the tool offset table, removing old tools, preparing new tools, installing new tools, and using a torque wrench to tighten the nut. The steps also include using a touch program to determine tool length, which is crucial for accurate machining processes.

Standard Operating Procedure CAM 2 HEIAN TOOL CHANGE This SOP will describe the steps necessary to perform a CAM2 Heian tool change. Revision Date: 7/29/15 1. SETTING UP THE TOOL OFFSET TABLE Tool 1 is the tool in slot 001 of the ATC, tool 2 is the tool in slot 002 and so on the values under GEOM under LENGTH is for the length of the bit, accurate data in that field insures that the path is cut to the correct depth. The values under GEOM under RADIUS is for the RADIUS of the bit. (Radius is half of diameter.) CAM 2 HEIAN TOOL CHANGE Page 1 Standard Operating Procedure 2. REMOVING THE DULL BIT Place tool holder with dull bit in the setup device. Tighten using clamping handle. Use the torque wrench to loosen the tool holder nut. Wear gloves to remove the dull tool, (it may be dull but can still cut you.) CAM 2 HEIAN TOOL CHANGE Page 2 Standard Operating Procedure 3. PREPARING NEW TOOL Wipe off the new tool shank to remove dust and debris. If there is a locating bolt in the end of the shank, make sure it is tightened with a wrench. This bolt being loose can cause the cutting depth to change over time. 4. INSTALLING NEW TOOL Insert the tool into the correct size collet, and tool holder. If there is an adjusting bolt make sure it bottoms out. In this case the collet is for a bit with a 3/8" shank. If the tool shank is in English measurements, for instance 3/8", use a collet that is in English. (Do not mix English measurements with metric.) With the tool holder still secured in the setup stand, use the torque wrench to tighten the nut. When you hear the wrench clicking it is tight enough. 6. USE THE TOUCH PROGRAM TO DETERMINE TOOL LENGTH See separate procedure to run the touch program for the particular tool location you changed. Touch program will automatically enter the tool length in the offset table. Enter the tool radius in the correct location of the tool offset table. CAM 2 HEIAN TOOL CHANGE Page 4
