I went through it and my children will too. Fact: Bullying is not “normal” or socially acceptable behavior. We give bullies power by our acceptance MYTH 2: If I tell someone, it will just make it worse. Fact: Research shows that bullying will stop when adults in authority and peers get involved Myth 3: “Just stand up for yourself and hit them back” Fact: While there are some times when people can be forced to defend themselves, hitting back usually makes the bullying worse and increases Myth 4: “Bullying is a school problem, the teachers should handle Fact:it. Bullying is a broader social problem that often happens outside of schools, on the street, at the malls, the local stores, school canteen as well as in the adult workplace, and Myth 5: People are born bullies Fact: Bullying is a learned behavior and behaviors can be changed. Bullying Survival Tips These tips are also good to share with a friend as a way to show There’s one clear way to solve the problem The key is thinking about the actions (and reactions) and discussing them with your child. Ignore the bully and walk away. It's definitely not a coward's response — sometimes it can be harder than losing your temper. Give people freedom of speech. Even when they are insulting or cursing you, respond as if they are trying to tell you something valuable. Don’t be afraid. We fear enemies. Plus, fear gives people power over us, so they will continue doing what scares us Don’t defend yourself. We defend ourselves from enemies, and we lose because the defensive position is the weaker one. So they will continue attacking. Don’t attack. Even if people attack you first, don’t retaliate. If people hurts you, let them know you are hurt, but don’t get angry. If you get angry with them, they will get angry back. Hold the anger. Bullies want to know they have control over your emotions. Don't get physical. Not only are you showing your anger, you can never be sure what the bully will do in response. Talk about it. Talking can be a good outlet for the fears and frustrations that can build when you're being bullied. Find your (true) friends Find one or two true friends and confide how the gossip has hurt your feelings Statement on Sen. Sonny Angara’s call to address bullying in schools In addressing bullying in schools, DepEd has time and again called for teachers and officials alike to instill among learners the value of respect for each other’s rights regardless of their opinion, status, gender, ethnicity, religion, as well as moral and physical integrity. Legal Basis of School’s Authority to Discipline Section 74 of MRPS and Section 102 of MORPHE provides — Section 74. Authority to Maintain School Discipline. Every private school shall maintain good school discipline inside the school campus as well as outside the school premises when pupils or students are engaged in activities authorized by the school. Section 74 (MRPS) mandates for the following— 1)Duty to discipline students 2)Who must discipline students; and 3)Extent of duty to discipline students Student discipline is VITAL, not merely to the smooth and efficient operation of the school, but to its very survival HENCE… Schools do NOT have a RIGHT to discipline BUT a DUTY/OBLIGATION to discipline students  former connotes discretion, the latter does NOT Who must discipline student? Who are DUTY BOUND to exercise discipline over Students? ANSWER: All school personnel—Academic or Non-Academic—All personnel therefore have the duty to: a) Teach discipline; b) Prevent intended misconduct from being committed; c) Report to authorities students’ misconduct. Extent of School Authority to Discipline How far does the school’s authority to maintain school discipline among its community members, particularly its students, extend? ANSWER: It is undisputed that the school can discipline its community members within the school campus during class hours. Whether that authority applies even outside of the school premises and class hours, the Supreme Court said in the case of Angeles vs. Sison (112 SCRA 26)— “xxx It is the better view that there are instances when the school might be called upon to exercise its power over its students xxx for acts committed outside the school and beyond school hours in the following: a) In cases of violations of school policies or regulations occurring in connection with a school-sponsored activity off-campus; b) In case where the misconduct of the student involves his status as a student or affects the good name or reputation of the school.” What should happen in cases of bullying? Report the incident of Guidance Make an bullying to designate will do appropriate teacher or the fact- finding recommendation school investigation. authorities All reports will be Implementation of Teacher shall entertained; and recommended report the the person who intervention and incident to the reported will be sanctions, if Guidance Office protected applicable If student from School will other school were inform the involved. The parents of the guidance will victim and the notify the head of bully school (Principal) Therefore when students misbehave outside the campus and the misconduct complained of directly affects the offender’s status as a suitable member of that community, there is no reason why schools may not impose disciplinary sanctions on him. GOLDEN RULE treat others the way you would like to be treated. TO GOD BE ALL GLOR Y AND PRAISE! God bless you all!
