# AECI MINING EXPLOSIVES - BULKSTORE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS ## TASK 11: RECLAIMING FINES FROM BAY 11 (CONT) ### STEPS | KEY POINTS | REMARKS ------- | -------- | -------- **1.5** Guide the scooper to bay 11 | **1.5.1** Scooper must push the product from front to back and then into bay 10 and bay 11 demarcation wall. | **1.5.2** Everybody should be at a safe distance when scooper is in the process of removing/loading. **2.1** Check that the product goes to 304A. | **2.1.1** Convey product for bagging **3.1** Check that the most of the product in bay 11 is almost completely moved to bay 10 and 11 demarcation walls. | **3.1.1** Once the scooper is outside, wash the scooper with water to avoid any contamination. **3.2** Check that backdoor is locked once the work is finished. ## TASK 12: ENVIRONMENTAL PROCEDURES ### STEPS | KEY POINTS | REMARKS ------- | -------- | -------- **1.1** Determine the amount of spillage in 25kg or 1.2t bags. | **1.1.1** All spillages should reported to the shift/team manager before can cleaned. The Manager to determine the quantity and best way to handle it. **1.2** 25kg bag: Return the damaged bag to the Bagging station for rework. | **1.3.1* Never use RWB to wash the spillages into the weak effluent drains. Water should be used as a last resort in cleaning the spillages after authorisation. **1.3** Clean the spillage using a broom into the skip bin. **1.4** The bins should be taken using a forklift to Washbay at ANPP3 plant and washed into the RDP tanks. | **1.5** Report the bin/quantity of the spillage to supervision. | **1.5.1** Supervision to raise an AP20 to write off stock variances. **1.6** Collect the damaged bags into waste skip bin and report the number of damaged bags to supervision. | **1.6.1** For supervision to keep record and track of the stocks for Cycle Count. **2.1** Clean the spillage into the skip bin. | **2.1.1** All spillages should reported to the shift/team manager before can cleaned. The Manager to determine the quantity and best way to handle it. **2.2** Take the bin using a forklift to Washbay at ANPP3 the shift manager has confirm. | **3.1** Report the spillages to shift manager immediately in case of abnormal equipment trips. | **3.1.1** Shit manager to alert the maintenance personnel and determine if some product is recoverable and quantity. Shift manager must report to plant manager. **3.2** Determine ways to recover the product. | **3.2.1** Never wash spillages to avoid effluent generating and also to minimise financial impact. The shift manager must be fully aware of what is happening at all times. **3.3** Wash the small amount remaining if it cannot be recovered, before doing so alert Shift manager. | **3.3.1** Shift manager should liaise with DCS No.11 process controller to check No.10 sump level. When pumping away online the fixed pump to be used no mobile pumps. **4.1** AN can decompose at high temperatures (300 degrees Celsius). It will emit water and nitrous oxide **4.2** Decomposed can be disposed by putting in the bin/skip for contaminated waste. | **4.1.1** Nitrous gases are toxic when inhale ## TASK 12: SHUT DOWN - EMERGENCY ROUTINE ### STEPS | KEY POINTS | REMARKS ------- | -------- | -------- **1.1** Identify the problem. | **1.2** Checks for process faults, e.g. choked chutes, build up on pulley etc. These are cleared by process. | **1.3.1** THESE MUST BE CHECKED BY MAINΤΕΝΕΝΑΝCE **1.3** Could be motors running hot, torn conveyors etc. | **1.4.1** DO NOT CONTINUE TO OPERATE **1.4** If any of the above conditions exists: trip the system by pulling the trip wire next to the conveyor. | **1.5** Isolate at the main switch and if necessary, lock out and fit "DO NOT OPERATE" boards to the main isolation switch. **2.1** Prepare the system to be maintained by the following decontaminated procedures. | **2.2** Prepare the selected system. | **2.3** When the product flow stops, empty the bagging hopper. | **2.4** Switch off and lock out isolator and fit "DO NOT OPERATRE" boards and start cleaning operation. | **3.1 **Visually inspect all equipment to ensure the fault has been rectified. | **3.2** Remove locks and "DO NOT OPERATE" boards from isolators. | **3.3** Switch all isolator to "ON" position. | **3.4** Start equipment in correct sequence. | **3.5** Check for smooth operation. | **3.6** If all is in order, resume bagging. | **4.1** Trip the system and evacuate to the 'G' Room as quickly as possible. | **4.1.1** To ensure personnel are safe if a gas leak occurs. **4.2** Ensure all contractors in the Bagging shed are made aware of the alarm as well as the evacuation area. | **5.1** Initiate the fire drenching system. | **5.1.1** Once Ammonium Nitrate start burning, it fuels its own fire and can quickly get out of control and explode. **5.2** Evacuate immediately to the Bagging 'G' Room. | **5.3** Notify Security Department and get them to contact the Fire Department. | **5.4** DO NOT FIGHT THE FIRE IF IT IS OUT OF CONTROL. AMMONIUM NITRATE WILL EXPLODE AT HIGH TEMPERATURE. | ## TASK 12: SHUT DOWN - EMERGENCY ROUTINE (CONT.) ### STEPS | KEY POINTS | REMARKS ------- | -------- | -------- **DATE** | **DOC CHANGE REQUEST NO** | **REVISION NO** | **REASON FOR CHANGE** | **APPROVED BY** | **DATE APPROVED** ------- | -------- | -------- | -------- | -------- | -------- 20/05/2014 | D45/2014 | 01 | Revision | J Motshophi | 26.05.2014 08/01/2016 | D49/2016 | 02 | Include Environmental and Emergency Procedure6 | HT Burger | 19.07.2016 12/10/2020 | DC11/2020 | 04 | Updating loading of Bulk trucks. | JP Mahlangu | 11.11.2020 23/08/2023 | DC09/2023 | 05 | Revision | JP Mahlangu | 29.08.2023
