Summary
This document provides an overview of cells, tissues, and organs in living organisms. It defines cells as the fundamental units, tissues as collections of similar cells, and organs as composed of various tissues. The document also describes different types of animal tissues. It mentions the three embryonic tissues (ectoderm, mesoderm, endoderm) that give rise to the four adult tissues (epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous).

**[Biology Sixth Form]** ***[Cells Tissues and Organs]*** A **CELL is a structural and FUNCTIONAL UNIT of most living organisms.** **A TISSUE consists of a collection of cells of COMMON ORIGIN and SIMILAR STRUCTURE organised to carry out ONE PARTICULAR FUNCTION.** **An ORGAN consists of a number of different tissues which forms a distinct part of an organism. It is specialised to one or more particular functions, e.g. An Eye, A Lung, and A Leave.** ***[Tissues]*** ***[Types of Animal Tissues]*** **All animal tissues arise from the THREE EMBRYONIC TISSUES namely: ECTODERM, MESODERM**, and **ENDODERM.** The three types of embryonic tissues give rise to **FOUR ADULT TISSUES** namely: 1. **EPITHELIAL TISSUE,** 2. **CONECTIVE TISSUE,** 3. **MUSCLE TISSUE,** 4. **NERVOUS TISSUE.** ***Epithelial Tissue*** **Definition** An **EPITHELIUM** is a **TISSUE** composed of cells that **LINE THE CAVITIES AND SURFACES** of **STRUCTURES** throughout the body. (Many Glands are also formed from epithelial Tissue)
