The resource includes all steps completed for that exercise. An exercise resource is identified by its exercise number, and any gaps in the numbering represent exercises where no resource is created or edited. Exercise resources allow you to see how a resource is correctly configured up until that point in a lesson, and they provide a starting point for you to continue from different points in a lesson if you have been interrupted in a lesson. © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. Not for copy or distribution. 24 Use an exercise copy 1. Create a copy of an exercise resource and rename it the resource name required in the lesson. 2. Append your initials to the resource to prevent a conflict with any copies of the resource created in earlier exercises. NOTE: There are no exercise resources for Lesson 2 because no resources were created or edited in that lesson. NOTE: A new resource is created in exercise 6.2. However, because site filters cannot be exported or imported into RapidResponse, there is no exercise resource for it. © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. Business story To develop effective resources, you need to understand how data is structured and organized in RapidResponse, what data is available, and where to find that data in the RapidResponse data model. Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 93 Not for copy or distribution. RapidResponse and data To effectively utilize the data in the RapidResponse database, you must first understand how data flows into RapidResponse. Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 94 Not for copy or distribution. RapidResponse tables RapidResponse tables store information related to specific areas of your supply chain, such as SKUs, parts, bill of materials, customer orders, and works orders. Some tables are editable, which enables simulations to be performed on the data in those tables. Tables in RapidResponse belong to one of the following groups: A list of commonly used tables in the RapidResponse data model is available in Appendix A: Job Aids. Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 95 Not for copy or distribution. About your data Depending on whether data is brought into RapidResponse from your enterprise data sources or is calculated by RapidResponse, it resides in different tables: Input data—Located in RapidResponse input tables. Usually brought in from external sources Displays in worksheets Data is editable Calculated data—Located in RapidResponse calculated tables or calculated fields in input tables. Created by performing calculations on your input data Represents RapidResponse planning results Displays in worksheets Data is not editable Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 96 Not for copy or distribution. How data is organized in RapidResponse RapidResponse has all the required data to manage supply and demand data for a product. The RapidResponse data model represents how your company's data is organized in RapidResponse. Data is stored in tables that are made up of fields. Fields contain specific types of data. By default, a set of standard tables are provided in the data model. Additional custom tables can be created to store data specific to your company. All examples in this course use tables from the standard RapidResponse data model. Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 97 Not for copy or distribution. Input tables Input tables contain data loaded from your enterprise data sources, including: Parts (SKUs, products, items) Demand orders and Customers Supply orders and Suppliers Inventory and Warehouses Historical demands and supplies Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 98 Not for copy or distribution. Control tables Control tables contain the rules and values that determine the calculations RapidResponse performs on input data. The tables are configured during deployment. Control tables are managed through named groupings of control table values—control sets. Only RapidResponse administrators can create and edit control sets. Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 99 Not for copy or distribution. Data Model posters The structure of tables and fields and the relationships between fields in the standard RapidResponse data model are illustrated in a series of posters. The two posters we focus on in this course are: RapidResponse Data Model for Import poster— displays the relationship between the tables and fields used in the RapidResponse data import process. RapidResponse Calculated Data Model poster— displays the relationship between the main RapidResponse database calculated tables and fields. Calculated fields in the RapidResponse data model input tables are also displayed. All the data model posters can be accessed from your RapidResponse Help menu. Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 100 Not for copy or distribution. Data Model for Import poster The Data Model for Import poster displays multiple input tables and the fields for each table. Any of these tables can be used as the base of a worksheet. Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 101 Not for copy or distribution. Part table The Part table is an input table at the core of the RapidResponse data model. Lists each unique part (or SKU) imported into the model. Holds information for each part, such as part name, description, and standard unit cost. The Part table links to other tables with part-related data. These tables allow for common part information associated with multiple parts, such as abc and planner codes, to be stored in one location and then referenced from the Part table. Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 105 Not for copy or distribution. References between tables In the RapidResponse data model, different tables store specific supply or demand-related information and those tables are linked where logically appropriate. Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 106 Not for copy or distribution. Using reference fields References use the referenceField.fieldName syntax. The syntax specifies the name of the reference field (which typically matches the table name) and the field name to use from that table. Multiple records can have the same reference or references can consist of multiple tables connected by a chain of references. When you add fields from a referenced table to a worksheet, be specific when adding fields to provide clean paths to the data. This is especially important for referenced tables that have multiple keys. Otherwise, values from all the table's key fields are represented in the reference. Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 107 Not for copy or distribution. Example For example, to add a field that displays the supplier name for a particular source to a worksheet based on the PartSource table, you use the reference field Source.Supplier.Name. Lesson 2: Data in RapidResponse © 2016 - 2019 Kinaxis. All rights reserved. 108 Not for copy or distribution. Exercise 2.2: Explore table references You use the input data model poster to explore how to read the poster and examine some of the relationships between the Part table and other tables. 1.
