What fields can nurses in Britain do further study in?** On a grade, depends on: experience, skills, different responsibilities, diffrent pay. Nursing officers-usually administrators Unqualified auxiliarry nurses-rutine work Student nurses-the lowest pay(\...when they qualify, they move up on a middle grade. With more experience they move up the ranks to become staff nurse, then sister(charge nurse) and evetually nurse officers) After basic training, nurses can choose to do further study and become specialists in diffrent fields. They can be: -a triage nurse-works in casualty -a psyhiatric nurse-treats the mentally ill -a health visitor-visits patients in their homes -a practice nurse-works in GP s surgeries -a midwife-attends births and deliveres babies Nurses in Britain work shifts, work overtime and dont get enough pay and respect for their work\...however they get manny rewards that have nothing to do with money **Florence Nightingale; What changes did se introduce into the nursing profession? Describe her life after the war when she returned to England?** she was born into a wealthy family in 1820, named after the city of her birth. She was educated by her father and private teachers and excelled in school. She loved reading books and writing letters in her diary. Due tp her wealth, she was expected to get married and have children, however, se didnt want that. She wanted to make a diffrence in peoples lives and serve. Her family was upset because of a bad reputation about the nurses in England(being drunken, uneducated and untrained, hospital were considered dirty , smelly and full of deseases. She began caring for the sick by visiting them, bringing them clean clothes, good food, medicine. Once the patients were clean and cared for, their health improved. She became head nurse at a hospital in London. She made sure that everything in hospital was clean and washed(prevented deseases from spreading). She educated people about the importance of hygiene. After the war se returned to London as a national heroine. She wrote many books on nursing. She opened the Nightingale Training school. She was the first woman to have recived the order of merit(an award whitch honours civilians for their services to Britain). In 1910 se died in her sleep. She was called \"the lady with the lamp\" because se walked through the wards at night with a lamp to check on wunded soldiers **What hospital wards do you know? Despite its impressive capabilities, its high price makes it less accessible. **Describe the hospital admission procedure** You take a seat in the waiting room. The first nurse you meet will be a specialist called a triage nurse. This nurse will make an initial assesment of your problem. This helps decide who is a priority. A patient with life-threatining condition will se a doctor immediately. A nurse will get peronal details from you and fill in a hospital registration form. When there is a free cubicle a doctor will see you. The doctor will decide on the treatment. **Job of a receptionist(responsibilities, character, challanges)** **RESPONSIBILITIES:** -she must greet and assist patients when they arrive -make appointments -record patients infomation -keep the accounds -organize and file patients records -reassure patients **CHARACTER:** \- be calm, diplomatic and strong -know medical terminology and abbreviations -know how to give first aid -know how to operate computers and other office equipment **CHALLANGES:** \- she must deal with diffrent people who are frightened, angry, drunk \- \"decode\" handwriting of the hospital staff and that wastes a lot of time **First aid procedures(izberi si sam dva)** **BURNS:** First we have to check if it safe to approach the injured person. Then we intruduce ourselves and ask if we can celp them. I there is a source of heat we remove it. Then we do the first inspection of the injured person - we check for other injuries. As soon as possible we start colling down the burn with water for 20 minutes or when the pain stops. We dont remove the clothes that are stuck to the burn. We call 911/112 for bigger burns. We take SAMPLE from patients. **CARDIAC ARREST:** First we have to check if it is safe to aproach the injured person. Then we check if the injured person responds to voice. If the person doesnt answer we put them on the back and check for forein bodies in the mouth. Then we check their breathing for 10 second. If the person is not breathing we call out loud for help and send someon to get the defibrilator and cal 911/112. We start cpr. We start compression and do 30 of them. Then we do 2 rescue breaths and cuntinue with the formula 30 compressions and 2 rescue breaths. If the person has drowned we first start with 5 rescue breaths and then 30 compressions and 2 rescue breaths. We cuntinue doing that unil the person is breathing again or as long as we can. **Job of a paramedic(responsibilities, character, challanges)** **RESPONSIBILITIES:** \- preform life-saving interventions \- stabilize patients \- safely transport patients to hospitals while monitoring their condition -triage patients and prioritize care based on urgency -asses the patients condition, take vital signs and gather medical history -coordinate with emergency services(police, firefighters..) -accurately document all treatments, observations **CHARACTEE:** \- capable of making quick decisions in high-stress situations \- empathetic and supportive to patients and family in distress \- emotionally and physically strong to handle challenging scenarios \- able to adjust to unpredictable and fast-changing environments **CHALANGES:** \- high stress \- physical strain \- emotional burden \- time pressure \- safety risks \- irregular hours \- public expectations **Types of pain? Tescribe them?** -a throbbing pain - comes and goes rhytmically, pulsating or beating sensation -a sharp pain - is strong and sudden,sudden, intense -a burning pain - feels like fire or heat -a stabbing pain - feels like something sharp istuck into you, sudden and knife-like -a shooting pain - travels fast along part of your body -a dull ache - is steady and not too painful -a gnawing pain - feels like is eating you, deep, presistent and nagging -a cramping pain- feels like a muscle is being squeezed
