Ac#vity EXPLORING THE LEAF November 5, 2024 Botany 1 Introduc8on Understanding the various characteris8cs of leaves is essen8al for anyone studying plant biology or botany, as leaves are a vital component in iden8fying and classifying plant species. This ac8vity introduces par8cipants to the basic types of leaves and their dis8nct features, such as shapes, margins, apexes, bases, and arrangements. By examining these traits, students can gain a deeper apprecia8on of plant diversity and the adap8ve func8ons of leaves in different environments. Through hands-on explora8on and guided observa8on, par8cipants will learn to differen8ate between leaf types, iden8fy specific leaf structures, and recognize common paIerns, enhancing their plant iden8fica8on and classifica8on skills. This founda8onal knowledge is crucial for future botany, ecology, and environmental science studies. Objec8ve To enhance students' understanding of plant morphology by iden8fying and dis8nguishing various leaf types, shapes, margins, apexes, bases, and arrangements, thereby fostering founda8onal skills in plant taxonomy and improving observa8onal accuracy in botanical studies. This ac8vity aims to develop students' ability to recognize and classify different leaf structures, suppor8ng a more comprehensive understanding of plant diversity and adapta8on. Instruc8ons 1. Analyze the illustra8ons below. 2. Roam around the campus and find actual samples presented in the illustra8ons. 3. Use long bond paper, glue, scissors, and a folder. 4. Place the actual samples on the bond paper. 5. You have to cut the leaf base and margins to show them properly. 6. Label the samples properly. 7. Before submiVng it, please take a good photo of your outputs as addi8onal reviewers. 8. Submit it by group at the end of the class. A. LEAF TYPES B. LEAF SHAPES C. LEAF BASES D. LEAF MARGINS E.
