# Goals of the Constitution **In order to create a more perfect union** * **Purpose:** To create a system that supported both federal and state rights. * **Details:** The framers of the Constitution had to find a balance between state and federal laws to allow each state to care for its citizens while forming common goals for all citizens. **Establish Justice** * **Purpose:** To create fairness under the law for all citizens. * **Details:** The framers knew the nation needed a uniform system to settle legal disputes, meaning the legal system would require all laws to be applied fairly and evenly to all citizens, regardless of race, religion, gender, or country of origin. **Insure domestic tranquility** * **Purpose:** To protect peace within our country. * **Details:** Under the Constitution, the government has the power to ensure peace and order. This includes providing relief to citizens from natural disaster or pandemic, or enforcing laws passed by the state or federal legislatures. **Provide for the common defense** * **Purpose:** To develop a system to protect our citizens from attacks. * **Details:** Every country has a duty to protect its citizens from foreign attacks. The framers of the Constitution gave the national government the ability to raise a standing army and navy.
