## The Elling Valley Mystery ### 1 Listen and read the story. The airplane flew low over Elling Valley. Jenny and Mike looked out of the window at the cornfield they were flying over. "When do we land, Dad?" Mike called over his shoulder. "In about three minutes," said Mr. Summers, looking at his watch. "Hey, Mike, look at that," said Jenny. Below in a cornfield there were enormous marks in the corn - exact circles, like a giant had pressed down the corn with a great big donut cutter. "What did that?" Mike asked. "The wind, I guess," said Jenny. "But perfect circles - weird." Just then the airplane landed at Elling Valley Airport, and the Summers' family started their new life. Mr. Summers had a new job in Elling Valley. Jenny and Mike hadn't lived anywhere near the country before. Elling Valley was a town with farm land all around it. They were going to live in a house for the first time, too. They'd always lived in an apartment building. Their new house was near the top of a hill, and it had a large yard. "Can we explore?" asked Jenny, as soon as the taxi had driven away. "No, you can't," said Mr. Summers. "You can explore tomorrow or the next day. There's a lot to do right now, and everybody has to help." "Welcome to your new home. Do you like it? This is the dining room, and the kitchen's through there. That's the living room across from the kitchen," said Mrs. Summers. ### 2 Answer the questions. 1. What did Jenny and Mike see from the airplane window? 2. How was their new home different from where they had lived before? 3. Why couldn't they explore immediately?
