The word Drama is derived from the Greek word “dran” meaning “to do” or “Action”. Drama is a story enacted by actors on a stage for a live audience. Drama is a story told in dialogue by performers in front of an audience. Drama is another word for a play.. COMMUNICATION AND DRAMA The essence of drama is to communicate an idea, feeling, or emotion to an audience. The process of communication allows us to interact using common system of symbols. Common forms of communication includes speaking, writing, gestures, mime, etc. The basic purpose of communication is to educate, inform and entertain. These are also the primary functions of Drama. IMPORTANCE OF DRAMA Drama develops communication skills, encourages leadership, team work, compromise, authentic listening skills, builds confidence and self esteem, refines presentation skills, encourages self-acceptance and acceptance of others. Drama encourages pride in work, responsibility, problem solving, management and organizational skills.
