# Determine the Relevance and Truthfulness of the Ideas Presented in the Material Viewed ## Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to: - Discuss Relevance and Truthfulness - Analyze the context if it is relevant and has truthfulness in the material viewed. - Determine the Relevance and the Truthfulness of the ideas presented in the material viewed ## Motivation 1,2,3 CONNECT! Arrange the cut pictures to make out what it is. Then everyone in your group must provide a word or sentence in connection with the picture you have arranged. I will give you 3 minutes to arrange the pictures. ## Relevance According to Roberson (2013), the term relevance, in education, typically refers to learning experiences that associate connections and applicable situations to the personal aspirations, interests, or cultural experiences of learners or that are somehow related to real-life issues, problems, and contexts. Determining relevance of the information gathered from materials viewed can be drawn from a variety of connections such as personal circumstances, tradition, culture, identity, history, career, adventure, or future goals (Pichon, et. al, 2012). The connections one can make lead to understanding of ideas and information from materials viewed. It deals with the importance of usefulness of an information. ## Types of Relevance - **Personal relevance**: the learning experiences that are either directly applicable to the personal aspirations, interests or cultural experiences of people - **Individual Choice**: People have the right to choose what they want based on their interest. - **Cultural Connection**: Choosing to read, listen, or watch information that are related to cultural backgrounds from the standpoint of their racial, ancestral or cultural heritage. - **Life relevance**: Information that is connected in some way to real-world issues, problems, and contexts - Intended to equip people with practical skills, knowledge and dispositions that you can apply in various educational, career and civic contexts throughout other lives. ## Truthfulness Conformity with fact or reality. It denotes complete sincerity and accuracy in all details. - **Check the source**: Check the web address for the page you are viewing. Spelling errors in company names, or strange-sounding extensions like "infonet" and "offer," rather than ".com" ".gov" or ".co.uk" may mean that the source cannot be trusted. - **Examine the evidence**: Evidence is the proof that the sources offer for what they know. - How close someone is to an event? - **Examine the images**: Not all images that you see are real. Consider the time that the photo was taken. ## Analysis Analyze the following situations and decide whether it can help you to attain Relevance and Truthfulness. Put check if it is relevant and star if it is truthful. - A resource speaker in the seminar you are attending mentioned names of credible authors while expounding his ideas. - You were given two options of clothes to wear, one is a dress, the other one is a shirt, and you chose a shirt because it is more comfortable. - According to blog, [https://a-z-animals.com](https://a-z-animals.com), Arachi is the biggest city in Pakistan, carrying a population of over 14.9 million people. It spreads out over an area of more than 3780 square kilometers. It is the financial hub of the whole country, comprising between 12-to-15% of the country's GDP. But regardless of its contribution to the economy, it stands in a mediocre state regarding living conditions. - Even you went with a lot of tourist spot, Mt. Mayon is the best for you, because this is the place where you were born and met wonderful people. - John presented his presentation with credible sources. ## Evaluation Determine the relevance and truthfulness in the context that follows: **Accident with a happy ending** When Frank's wife had a car accident, she was so injured that she fell into a coma. Years passed but Frank did not stop visiting his wife at the hospital. Even though almost everyone - including the doctors - had given up hope, he remained faithful that she would one day recover. Every time he visited her, he began talking to her, recounting all those beautiful moments they spent with each other. One day, when he showed her the video of their wedding day, she slowly began to move her hand. She whispered his name and began gaining consciousness. Several weeks after she had woken up, she had fully recovered and was finally allowed to leave the hospital for good. When the couple left, she told Frank that she heard his voice while she was in a coma and that it was his voice that was the greatest aid in helping her to return to consciousness. **Questions:** - How would you relate the story to your personal life? - If you were the husband in the story, what will you do to be remembered by your wife? **Collective Push Against Cyber Bullying** The fight against cyberbullying is advancing as more institutions are joining hands to combat the abusive use of free speech. November is a month when cyberbullying is widely discussed all over the world, with events such as the International Day Against Violence and Bullying - a week-long campaign to combat the issue. Cyber wellness and the child abuse and protection helpline launched by Dep Ed to safeguard Filipino children symbolize the country's fight against violence and bullying. In support of ASKSonnie's advocacy and the world's fight against abuse of free expression and other negative online experiences, Kaspersky collected a range of tips for parents and children on what to do if they're bullied, and how to protect themselves. **Questions:** - Is this text truthful?
