GENERAL PHYSICS 1 SHIERA JAY A. CANDINATO, SST-I September 25-26, 2023 Quarter 1, 1st Semester, S.Y. 2023-2024 1. At which point will the vertical velocity be equal to zero? 2. What would be the horizontal velocity at that point? What happens if we apply force on the same direction as the velocity? What if force and velocity are opposite? What if force and velocity are perpendicular? UNIFORM CIRCULAR MOTION Objectives Describe tangential velocity, centripetal force, and radius of circular motion Determine how they affect the motion in the circle Solve problems involving circular motion UNIFORM CIRCULAR MOTION The motion of an object around a circular path with a constant (uniform) speed 2 Requirements: The net force has to be constant, and always pointing toward the center There has to be a constant velocity at a 90 degree angle to the net force Centripetal Force Net force on the object that is moving in the circle Always point toward the center Centrifugal Force Force that pushes things outward as they move in a circle There is no such thing as centrifugal force Tangential velocity The distance the object moves around the circle over the change in time. Radius Radius of circular path Centripetal Acceleration The acceleration of the object that points toward the center Always point at the direction the same as force Period Amount of time the object takes to complete one cycle Frequency Amount of repetitions a cycle completes in 1 second How many times the object goes around the circle in 1 second Angular Frequency Rotation rate measured in radians 2𝜋 𝜔= 𝑇 𝜔 = 2𝜋f
