Study Notes
Uniform Circular Motion
- Motion of an object moving in a circular path with a constant speed
- Requirements:
- Constant net force towards the center of the circle
- Constant velocity at a 90° angle to the net force
- Centripetal Force: Net force on an object moving in a circle, always directed toward the center.
- Centrifugal Force: Not a real force. It's a perceived outward force experienced by objects moving in a circle.
- Tangential Velocity: The distance an object travels around a circle divided by the time taken.
- Measured in meters per second (m/s)
- Radius: The distance from the center of the circle to the object's path.
- Measured in meters (m).
- Centripetal Acceleration: Acceleration of the object pointing towards the center of the circle.
- Always in the same direction as the force.
- Period: Time taken for one complete cycle of the circular motion.
- Measured in seconds (s).
- Frequency: Number of cycles completed in one second.
- Measured in Hertz (Hz).
- Angular Frequency: Rate of rotation measured in radians.
- Formula: 𝜔 = 2𝜋/𝑇, where T is the period.
- Formula: 𝜔 = 2𝜋f, where f is the frequency.
