# Liver Anatomy **General Information** - It is the largest visceral organ. - Weighs ~1.5 kg. - Composed of hexagonal liver lobules with hepatocytes surrounding a central vein. **Functions** - Bile secretion - Blood detoxification - Lipid metabolism - Carbohydrate metabolism - Protein synthesis - Production of uric acid and urea **Two Faces** - **Diaphragmatic face:** This face is in direct contact with the diaphragm. - **Visceral face:** This face is in contact with other organs. **Covinaud Classification** - Divides the liver into 8 independent and functional segments. - Each segment has vascular, venous, and biliary drainage. **Diagram/Table Descriptions** A diagram of the liver is shown, labeling different parts and segments. This includes the right and left lobes, and the different segments (VIII, VII, VI, V, IV, III, II, I) as per the Covinaud classification. Anatomical structures such as the falciform ligament, portal vein, and inferior vena cava are shown. The image also highlights the difference between the diaphragmatic and visceral surfaces of the liver.
