PASCO SHERIFF’S OFFICE GENERAL ORDER TITLE: SCHOOL EMPLOYEE ARREST NOTIFICATION GENERAL ORDER: 74.3.1 EFFECTIVE: AUGUST 5, 2024 SUPERSEDES: JULY 15, 2010 ACCREDITATION STANDARDS: NONE PAGES: 2 CONTENTS: This order consists of the following numbered sections: I. NOTIFICATION II. GLOSSARY PURPOSE: To establish guidelines for notifying the Superintendent of Schools, the charter school governing board, private school owner or administrator, president of the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, or university lab schools director or principal, as applicable, of a qualified employee arrest. SCOPE: This order applies to all law enforcement deputies. DISCUSSION: F.S. 1012.797 requires that a law enforcement agency notify the Superintendent of Schools, the charter school governing board, private school owner or administrator, President of the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, or university lab schools director or principal within 48 hours after an employee’s arrest for a felony, or misdemeanor offense involving child abuse, or the sale or possession of a controlled substance. POLICY: The School Resource Officer (SRO) Unit supervisor or designee will make the required notification when a school employee, as outlined in this General Order, is arrested. PROCEDURE: I. NOTIFICATION: 1 A. Deputy: A deputy that arrests a school employee for a felony or a misdemeanor involving the abuse of a minor child or the sale or possession of a controlled substance will notify their immediate supervisor of the employee’s name, address, and facts of the case. B. Deputy Supervisor: The deputy’s immediate supervisor will contact an SRO Unit supervisor to make the notification. C. School Resource (SRO) Unit Supervisor: The SRO Unit supervisor or designee will make the notification by providing the employee’s name, address, and arrest charge to the following appropriate entity: Office of Employee Relations for Pasco School District employees, The charter school’s program coordinator for charter school employees, Private school owner or administrator for a private school employee, President of the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, or university lab schools director or principal for their respective employees. D. The notification will be made within 48 hours of the arrest. II. GLOSSARY: SCHOOL DISTRICT EMPLOYEE - Any school officer, instructional person, administrative, or support person employed either full or part-time by the school district.
