Also, due to the long section-lengths available, there would be fewer joints along the pipework, so there is less risk of leaks. This pipe is suitable for hot and cold water and so can be used for central heating systems. © 2013 City and Guilds of London Institute. Any flat-sided nut should be adjusted with a spanner and not with grips. The head is shaped so as only to be positioned on the nut one way, ensuring the force on the handle is applied in the correct direction and slip is minimised. © 2013 City and Guilds of London Institute. This is mainly due to the spanner being made from forged steel, which will rust if left damp after use. © 2013 City and Guilds of London Institute. With the cutters it is important to clean and dry the tool after use as the blade can rust. There are no moving parts to lubricate but there is a blade that must be sharp to offer a good cutting action. © 2013 City and Guilds of London Institute. Sometimes the use of gloves may be required to protect your hands. Never put your fingers inside the pipe cutter as this could result in a severe cut. © 2013 City and Guilds of London Institute. Take care when using the pipe cutters not to trap your fingers in between the handles after the pipe has been cut. Adjust the spanner to the correct size to avoid it slipping off and hitting your fingers. © 2013 City and Guilds of London Institute.
