College of Design Department of Interior Design INSTRUCTOR: DR. DALIA ELDARDIRY INTRODUCTION:  Time is the most valuable resource in a project.  Without proper time management, a project can head towards a disaster.  When it comes to project time management, it is not just the time of the project manager, but it is the time management of the project team.  Scheduling is the easiest way of managing project time.  In addition to the estimate and resource allocation, cost always plays a vital role in time management. Project Time Management Process describes how to monitor, and control time spent within a project. By using this Time Process, you can control the amount of time that it takes staff to build deliverables within a project, increasing your chances of delivering "on time" and to schedule. Processes involved in the project time management include: 1. Define Activities 2. Sequence Activities 3. Estimate Activity Resources 4. Estimate Activity Durations 5. Develop Schedule 6. Control Schedule Each of these processes occurs at least once in every project and in one or more project phases (if the project is divided into phases).  Input of Define Activities process: This step requires to define the tasks, milestones, and other activities needed to complete the project. Start with a basic definition of each task and fill in the details as the project gets fleshed out.  Tools and Techniques used in Define Activities process: Decomposition Rolling wave planning Templates Expert judgment  Outputs of Define Activities process are: Activity list Activity attribute Milestone list Input for The sequence of the activities Identifies and documents relationships among project activities Uses logical relationships Can be performed by using manual or automated techniques or project management software Tools and Techniques used for the Sequence Activity process are: Precedence diagramming method (PDM) Dependency determination Applying leads and lags Schedule network templates  Estimates the type and quantities of material, people, equipment, or supplies required to perform each activity.  Is closely coordinated with the Estimate Costs process Tools and Techniques used are: _ Expert judgment _ Alternative analysis _ Published estimating data _ Bottom-up estimating _ Project management software  Activity Resource Requirements Identifies the types and quantities of resources required for each activity. Determines the estimated resources. Documents the including basis of estimates and the assumptions made.  Resource Breakdown Structure Is a hierarchical structure of resources by type and category Organizes and reports project schedule data with resource utilization Information.  Project Document Updates The project documents that may be updated include: Activity list, Activity attributes, and Resource calendars What are the significant qualities of an excellent interior designer? An excellent interior designer should have significant qualities such as:  Being detail-oriented  Creative  Artistic  Having problem-solving skills  Interpersonal skills, and many others.  Process that requires the estimate of the amount of work effort required and the amount of resources to be applied for approximating the work periods needed to complete the activity  Uses information on the activity scope of work, required resource types, estimated resource quantities, and resource calendars, as well as historical information Tools and Techniques used are: Expert judgment Analogous estimating Three-Points estimating Should have at least a planned start date and a planned finish date for each activity. A targeted schedule can also be made with a defined target start and end date for every activity. Can be presented in detail or in summary form. Often presented graphically or in tabular form. Tools and Techniques used are: Schedule network analysis Critical path method Resource leveling What-if scenario analysis Schedule compression Inputs Tools and Techniques Outputs Organizational process Schedule network Project Schedule assets analysis Project scope statement Critical path method Schedule baseline Activity List Schedule Compression Schedule data Activity attributes What-if scenario analysis Project document updates Project Schedule Network Resource levelling diagram Activity Resource Critical chain method requirements Resource Calendars Scheduling tool Activity duration estimates Applying calendars Project Management Plan Adjusting Leads and Lags - Risk Register Enterprise environmental factors :  Summarizes schedules that identify significant or major milestones in the project  Denotes identified deliverables and their specified dates of completion, as requested by project sponsor, customer, or other stakeholders  Once scheduled, the milestones may be difficult to shift 2009 PMstudy.com. PMP.PROJECT MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONAL.CHAPTER6 What is the most integral element of interior design? Why? space The most integral element of interior design is ………….. because interior design focuses on transforming visually appealing interior spaces. “The essence of interior design will always be about people and how they live. It is about the realities of what makes for an attractive, civilized, meaningful environment, not about fashion or what’s in or what’s out. This is not an easy job.” Albert Hadley Schedule control is part of Integrated Change Management. It is concerned with three processes: 1. The project manager works with the factors that can cause schedule change in an effort to confirm that the changes are agreed upon. Factors can include project team members, stakeholders, management, customers, and project conditions. 2. The project manager examines the work results, conditions, and demands to know the schedule has changed. 3. The project manager manages the actual change in the schedule. It considers the conditions, reasons, requests, costs, and risks or making changes. It includes methods of tracking changes, approval levels based on thresholds, and documentation of approved or declined changes. PMP.PROJECT MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONAL.CHAPTER6 Schedule control, the process of managing changes to the project schedule, is based on several inputs: Project schedule Performance reports Change requests The schedule management plan PMP.PROJECT MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONAL.CHAPTER6 Corrective action is any method applied to bring the project schedule back into alignment with the original dates and goals for the project end date. Corrective actions are efforts to ensure future performance meets the expected performance levels. It includes: – Extraordinary measures to ensure work packages complete as scheduled or with as little delay. – Root-cause analysis of schedule variances. – Implementing measures to recover from schedule delays. PMP.PROJECT MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONAL.CHAPTER6 List of Tips for Effective Time Management Set goals correctly. Set goals that are achievable and measurable. Prioritize wisely. Prioritize tasks based on importance and urgency. Set a time limit to complete a task. Take a break between tasks. Organize yourself. Remove non-essential tasks/activities.
