Physiology INTEGUMENTARY AND SKELETAL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS  Waterproof  Cushions, protects deeper tissue.  Excretes salts & urea.  Pain ,Pressure , touch , cold, heat (Sensory Roles ) Regulates body temperature. ( Thermoregulation ) Synthesize vitamin D. Flexible for growth and self repair Structure of the skin Skin has three layers: 1 -The epidermis. The outermost layer of skin, provides a waterproof barrier and creates our skin tone. 2 - The dermis. Beneath the epidermis, contains tough connective tissue, hair follicles, and sweat glands. 3 - The deeper subcutaneous tissue (hypodermis) is made of fat and connective tissue, it binds the skin to the underline tissue. Accessory structures of the skin: hair, nails, sweat glands, and sebaceous glands. 3 - Sweat gland:- There are two types of secretory skin glands only in mammals. ( A) Eccrine sweat gland Are the major sweat glands of the human body, found in virtually all skin, with the highest density in palms and soles, then on the head. ( B) Apocrine sweat glands:- which are usually associated with hair follicles, continuously secrete a fatty sweat into the gland tube. 4 - Sebaceous glands:- Are microscopic exocrine glands in the skin that secrete an oily or waxy matter, called sebum, to lubricate and waterproof the skin and hair of mammals. 2-SKELETAL ORGANS Bones, cartilages, ligaments, joints FUNCTIONS Protects & supports body organs Framework for muscles & movement Hematopoiesis; store minerals Connective tissue:- Is classified into two subtypes: soft and specialized connective tissue.
