Study Guide for A&P Midterm Your midterm is 100 multiple choice questions on chapters 1 and 2-7 and 7 short answer questions. Many of the MCQs are matching (quite a few actually). Those types of questions are usually easier and studying previous chapter tests is a great way to prepare. The list of concepts/topics below is not an exhaustive list but it should help guide you (I guess that’s why it’s called a study guide). Use your Mastering Assignments, End of Chapter Tests, Class notes, and (OF COURSE) the PowerPoints! They are all listed in the actual units-along with other suggested videos (CRASH Course is great!) Topics/concepts on the midterm Anatomical terms (proximal, distal, superior, inferior, sagittal, coronal, etc.) Body cavities and pleurisy as a homeostatic imbalance Positive and negative feedback loops Tissues o Epithelium, connective, nervous, muscle (and don’t forget glands!) o Structure/function of the different types of cells/tissues in the epidermis + dermis Integumentary system o Organ (skin) and accessory structures o Types of cells in the epidermis/dermis and their structure/function o The ABCDE rule Skeletal system o Axial vs. appendicular o Microscopic bone tissue–focus on what type of materials bone is made of o Macroscopic o Bone structures (processes, foramina, depressions/fossa, grooves) o Bone names/structures (just a handful)-Skull and Facial Bones ▪ Be able to compare the pectoral and pelvic girdles BE VERY SPECIFIC, be able to describe the difference and HOW it affects function. ▪ Be able to compare and contrast male and female pelvis. BE VERY SPECIFIC, at least 4-link specific function the structure provides. o Physiology: ▪ bone growth, bone remodeling, ▪ calcium ion homeostasis
