HOFFMAN ESTATES FIRE DEPARTMENT STANDARD OPERATING GUIDELINES SOG Category & Identification Number: EFFECTIVE DATE: FIRE PREVENTION GUIDELINES– 003 January 1, 2022 NIMS COMPLIANT SOG Title: Hazardous Materials Information Revision: 3 APPROVED BY: NUMBER OF PAGES: Re-evaluation Date: Alan Wax January 1, 2024 Fire Chief 2 PURPOSE To establish guidelines for the collection and use of all Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Right to Know Information submitted to the Department. DEFINITIONS POLICY PROCEDURES A. Collection and review of SDS and Right to Know Information 1. During the semi or annual inspections personnel are to request current SDS and Right to Know Information. 2. Copies of fire station specific SDS sheet are available on the Village network computer as well as hard copies maintained in each fire station. B. Emergency use of SDS and related information 1. The Haz Mat Officer will maintain all Tier II files submitted to the LEPC. These files will be updated each January and as changes are submitted. Tier II files will be maintained on the Village network computers, as well as uploaded to CAD. 1 RESPONSIBILITIES A. All Department personnel are to forward any information received by them related to SDS and Right to Know Information to the Haz Mat Officer. B. All Department personnel are to be knowledgeable in the use and location of the Haz Mat preplan information found on the Village network computers and should have specific knowledge of those occupancies within their district. EXCEPTIONS REFERENCES DEFINITIONS Tier II reporting is an annual federal report that is mandatory for companies that store hazardous materials.
