**3-Day Intensive Training: Camera and Lenses Overview** Cameras and lenses are among our top priorities in scanning. We buy both film and digital cameras, lenses, adapters, mounts, flashes, and external monitors. Common brands include Canon, Sony, Nikon, and Fujifilm, but we also consider premium brands like Hasselblad, Leica, Mamiya, Red, Blackmagic, Olympus, Arri, Contax, and Profoto. Watch out for lenses as well, as there are times when the lens is more valuable than the camera itself. When price-checking cameras and lenses you have to specify the correct model and sizes as some brands have series that almost look the same design, for example, the Fujifilm X-T30 and Fujifilm X-T30 Mark II. ![](media/image3.png) The black one is the Fujifilm X-T30 and the one with silver design is the Fujifilm X-T30 Mark II. Black and silver colors are available in both models. If you look closely these two are almost a perfect copy of each other. You'll know the exact model when you look at the bottom of the camera as it will state the exact model where you can see the serial number as well or you can just simply ask the seller. You should check the pictures thoroughly to see the correct camera model. It's either at the front right side of the camera, at the top of the camera, or at the back of the camera near the LCD screen. Another way of checking is at the bottom of the camera where the serial number and exact model are found. Note: There are many instances where a seller might state that their camera/lens is a higher-end model but in reality, the camera/lens is the cheaper version. Although it\'s not common, it does occur and you should be familiar with the popular models that have duplicate models. Interactive Assignment: With that being said, you will be given below a list of cameras which you should check each one to spot the model that has a duplicate model. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Know that popular brand like Canon, Sony, Nikon, and Fujifilm has their own line of lenses but know that there are off-brand or third-party lenses that are made for these Cameras. Third-party or Off-brand lens brands are usually from Sigma, Tamron, Rokinon, Meike, Viltox, TTartisan, etc. Know that camera has different mounts Canon R cameras are compatible with Canon RF lenses, and Canon EF/EF-S lenses are compatible with Canon EOS cameras. Canon EF lenses can be used for Canon R Camera as well if they use an [Adapter]. An adapter is a ring-like device that is attached between the lens and the camera. Note: Lenses with red rings around them are expensive. Lenses that are white in color usually have some value in them from \$400 up to \$1000+ Another thing that should be noted is that film cameras are fragile and prone to defects. Film cameras have no screen at the back and use film rolls to take pictures. Know that for film cameras we pay less than we commonly pay instead of 50-60%, we only pay 40%-50%. We need more profit for these cameras as we are taking the risk of the camera being defective or worse not working. With the exception of newer and expensive film cameras. For Digital and compact cameras, you should know that the most popular ones are the Canon G7X Mark II and Canon G7X Mark III because it has in demand and is easy to sell, Scammers usually use these camera models to deceive buyers. Be cautious when checking the listing for these cameras, if you see that the shipping is enabled, the price is too low (for good condition), and the profile was recently created in 2025 or the description says "shipping only", "1-3 days via USPS shipping", "Needs deposit", "tell me your reason why you need this camera" or "If you want this camera you can contact me at (contact info), kindly discard the listing and move back to scanning. As of this writing the Canon G7X Mark II is \$800 on eBay and the Canon G7X Mark III market value is \$1000. ![](media/image6.png) Canon Powershot G7X Mark II ![](media/image1.png) Canon Powershot G7X Mark III Other common brands that you will regularly encounter are Sony Cameras, such as the A7 series, A7S series, A7R series, A7C series, A6000 series, and the FX series. Another brand that you will commonly encounter is Nikon Cameras. The most common ones are from the Nikon D3000 and Nikon D5000 series. Do watch out for the Nikon Z series, as it has more value than the rest of the series mentioned here. For Red Cameras, we buy them but we want more profit from it. Minimum 50% as RED cameras take a while to be sold. Another thing about the RED camera is that it's like a blank canvas, as It needs a lot of accessories to function, You can't just simply put the lens on the camera because you need to buy the mount for it, you can't just use the battery and use it on the camera as you still need to buy the adapter and connectors for the battery. Read the listing thoroughly as sellers will sometimes just sell the body alone and no other accessories. We often see Blackmagic cameras when scanning, and you should know that they are usually compatible with Canon EF lenses and Panasonic Lumix MFT lenses. You'll see the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, 6K, 6K Pro, and Blackmagic Design Production Camera 4K a lot. ![](media/image4.png) Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K (BMPCC 6K) Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro (BMPCC 6K Pro) Once in a while, you will come across Cine Lenses, We do buy these types of lenses however just like with Film Cameras, we are looking for higher profit for these types of lenses. Aside from we can't test it out, these lenses don't have much demand on the Market thus for are looking for a 50% and up profit margin for Cine lenses. **Lenses** For Lenses, the exact model and size are found at the top part of the lens around the rim, the body, and the box or simply ask the seller. You should type the mm size, the f-number, and the letters and numbers after to get the specific model when price-checking. As I have mentioned earlier, there are times when one single lens has more value than the camera, sometimes sellers think that in order for the camera to work they need the lenses and another accessory for it to work but there are other sellers who know that they can sell the camera body alone or the lens and still make a good profit. Of course, we do not disclose this to the sellers as we want to make use of it to our advantage. ![](media/image11.png) If you can look at the arrow it was pointing at the rim of the camera where the complete model and size of the lens are available. This is the top of the lens wherein you can see the complete model and size of the lens. Another way of checking the lens model is through its body. Some models have model and size numbers on the body of the lens although not all lenses have the complete model number on the body as it's missing the f-number on the body. If the seller posts a camera with an attached lens to it, and the seller doesn't mention if the lens is included or not. We will assume that the lens is included and verify within the chat by asking the seller " The camera and lens work and are in good condition, right?". If they say yes, we will continue negotiating and closing the deal but if they say "No, just the camera body only." Then we will proceed in negotiating just for the camera body only. Something about the model of the lens that you should look into is the f-number. 2.8 F-number has more value than the other f-number. The F-number is an important indicator for lenses as it could dictate whether the lenses are expensive or not, especially for Canon Lenses as this brand manufactures lenses with the same size but different F-numbers thus it all differs in value. **ACCESSORIES** We do buy other accessories for cameras like Adapters, Extenders, External Monitors, Strobe Lights, and Flash. The most known brand when it comes to camera adapters is Metabones, although lens manufacturers created adapters too. Metabones have more value than other adapters, The purpose of adapters is basically to enable a different lens type to be used for different mount type. RF lenses are only compatible with R series cameras but if you use an adapter you can use the RF lens to a EF mount camera and vice versa. The most common and expensive brand for Flash is Profoto and with that information in mind you should know that price checking important when we see this brand as it can bump the price up of the listing. For external monitors, the most common brand with value is SmallHD and Atomos. FeelGood monitors are cheap.
