Fossil fuels, steam engine, and the rise of manufacturing. Revolution : A sudden radical or complete change. :A changeover in use or preference especially in technology. Fossil fuels  Coal  Oil  Natural gas James Watt (1736-1819), a Scottish instrument-maker who in 1776 designed an engine in which burning coal produced steam. His design was used to pump water out of coal mines to better extract natural resources. 1800, Watt looses his patent rights. 1900, the steam engine was improved where it burned ten (10) times more efficently. 19th Century – British colonies in North America attached steam engines to power looms; greater and faster production of cotton cloth. Later on, attached to locomotives and steamships that revolutionized travel.
